Customer Questions & Answers

How do I install the new rubber seals?

The 2 rubber replacement seals that came with the American Standard Swing Spout Seal Kit (030118-0070A) seem way too small to fit over the manifold. Also, the shape of the 2 new rubber seals appears to be different from what's in place already. Maybe the ones in place are so worn that they have changed shape? I don't know. My real problem is that I can't figure out how to get the new seals to stretch over the manifold and slide into place. I am hesitant to cut away the existing seals before I figure out how to get the new ones on. That's the other thing, I presume I have to cut (maybe with a razor) the old seals to remove them. Another small issue is that the new white plastic piece (bearing ring) is a little bit taller than the existing bearing ring. I'm thinking that maybe this spout seal kit isn't for my faucet although I'm pretty sure my faucet is a Ceramix Model 2021.6xx. I would appreciate any suggestions about how to get the new seals on and any thoughts about the bearing ring too. Thanks in advance. Charlie

I was able to get the old seals off using two small, thin screwdrivers to pry the seal out of the groove. They are very tight and take a fair amount of forcing. The new seals also required a lot of work to stretch them over the manifold. In my kit, the new rubber seals had a bit of a taper. It is important to orient the taper with the big side facing down so the spout will slide over the seal. You need not ask I how I know this. Also liberally apply silicone plumbers grease to the seals so the spout can be turned easily. I did an internet search for the model number of the faucet I fixed, and found a service manual that helped with knowing how to service the unit. Not sure what to tell you on the bearing ring. Often these parts are a bit different from the original. Take a close look at how the spout rests on the ring and see if there's room for any additional thickness. The spout can sit a little higher or lower and still work OK. Or perhaps you can sand down the extra thickness.
