The open front toilet seats are what you typically see in public toilets. "U" shaped rather than "O."

Upgraded a builder grade toilet to a new Kohler and had read reviews indicating that the Kohler seat was less than desirable. I chose this seat based upon two specific needs: 1) Quality / durability of the build. I was not interested in a flimsy plastic seat; 2) Soft close was a must, as anti-slam is a must have. This seat fit the bill and wasn't unreasonably priced. I'm pleased with the quality, the rigidity, the comfort of the seat, and the soft close. Installation was simple and the color matches with the porcelain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than the others We just refinished our bathrooms and had new Kohler Memoirs toilets put in. We also ordered the Kohler Cachet seats thinking that they would work for us. We quickly came to find that they were not comfortable and turned our attention to this seat. Overall, it's a good value and comfortable seat. Mounting it was pretty easy, although there is not much adjustment ability once you mount it. Just a little crooked, no matter what we try. The break-away nuts on the plastic bolts help prevent over tightening. Do not sit on this seat or the cover if you have buttons or tabs on your jeans, otherwise, it will get scuffed easily.

However, when sitting upon closed plastic lid, it felt as though it would break (I weigh 195 pounds on a 6'4" frame). Finally decided to replace plastic toilet seat and lid with something more substantial: the Bemis Slow Close Lift-Off Elongated Closed Front Toilet Seat in White. Product was simple to install and enables one to easily remove without tools the seat and lid for thorough cleaning of both the bowl and the seat and lid. The wooden seat and lid seem solid and easily capable of supporting my full weight. Very pleased with this product.

I replaced some wood lids of a different brand that were already showing signs of deterioration. They are wood and wood tends to stain. I hoping that the seal that seems to be better than some will allow them to hold up and last longer. The plastic equivalents just seem too light and may not close or close as efficiently. It's difficult to gauge in the store since they are vertical and don't close the same as when vertical. These are the first slow close I've purchased and so far I like them. Kids tend to let lids slam so this reduces the noise, possibly pinched hands/fingers and less damage to the lid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a toilet seat, but it's a good one! I did not install this myself. My dad came over to do a few things and he ended up taking care of this as well. There was some cursing involved - I guess because of the lift-off feature, he found the installation confusing. I'm not sure if that's because the installation really is more complicated...or because he didn't read any of the materials (probably not even the box) and didn't know it was lift-off (I know he didn't know that), he tried to install this as any other toilet seat he's installed and had a hard time. Given the cursing, I rated this down on installation. The toilet seat looks great. I just bought a condo and the seat on the toilet was so gross I didn't even want to use it (even my dad when he took the old seat off said, "a guy must have lived here" - ew). Cleaning did not help. I also prefer the soft-close style, I'm terrible about letting seats slam otherwise. This is the third soft-close seat I've had. It is the kind that won't really close on its own unless you push it, but it won't slam if you push it down (my preference is for the very first kind I had, which closes on its own just slowly and gently, but that's also the oldest and maybe they're all less fluid now?). This seat made the whole toilet look new. The lift-off feature is GREAT for cleaning! It was so easy! Toilet seats aren't a thing I buy very often so that is a new feature to me and I would definitely recommend this seat for that.

Unfortunately, it did not work on my Kohler San Raphael. I ended up getting model # K-4713-0, which is the proper replacement seat for the Kohler. The Bemis might have worked had I purchased additional hardware. The problem is that the Kohler San Raphael does not have exposed bolts and nuts. The bolts are not exposed since they go into the toilet itself. The Kohler seat comes with two sets of hardware so should fit on all types of toilets. I returned the Bemis without any problems.

I purchased this wooden seat to replace the plastic one that came with my Kohler toilet. It feels very solid underneath my bottom, unlike the plastic seat that flexed badly. The slow-close feature took some getting used to after a lifetime of manually lowering toilet seats. My impression after a few weeks of use is that "slow close" is not a particularly noteworthy advancement in toilet seat amenities. The "sta-tite" nuts for the bolts that secure the seat to the toilet snap off when the proper tightening torque is reached. This feature works only the first time the seat is installed, and since seats have to be removed on occasion for cleaning under the hinge caps, it would be helpful to know the recommended tightening torque when reinstalling. The seat was "Proudly made in the USA."

The slow close lid works surprising well. It is constructed out of wood and does not flex when sitting on the seat or lid. Paint finish is attractive and complete allowing for it to be easily cleaned. The color tint (it looks white to me) matches perfectly. The mounting hardware is unique, but you only need to follow the included pictured instructions. It took me no more than 5 minutes to complete the installation. Do not be alarmed when part of the mounting nut breaks away (and can be discarded) when you have tightened the nut to the correct tension. This is a feature that helps to keep you from over - tightening and stripping the threads on the nut & mounting bolt. The seat can still be easily removed by loosening the upper portion of the nut shaft.
