Being an elderly single lady, my concern is that when I open the box, do I have to assemble any parts, or am I in luck and just plug it in????

Answer:
The guard has to be installed which you have to do. It is in the Black and Decker bush trimmer box as a separate unit. The screws come out where the guard is to be installed and you just re-screw it back on the trimmer.

Only the attachment of the black blade guard. This requires one long bolt and nut that comes with the trimmer. You have to have your on flat blade screw driver.

Nope. Comes fully assembled. No cords are provided. So you'll need to buy the power cord separately, unless you already have one.

Answer:
Dear Greg,
This Black and Decker hedge trimmer does not have a automatic hold. You have to keep your finger on at all times. If you want an automatic hold just go to Home Depot online or in the store and ask for it. Online you can type in automatic hold on a hedge trimmer. Even Google it.

No. None of my branches were larger than 3/8" and it just chewed them instead of cutting. I would not try this on anything larger.

Answer:
It is just a hedge trimmer. Even though it is a good one, it will only cut a 5/8 inch branch or smaller. You're better off with a small chain saw for cutting branches that are 5/8 and larger. If it is a one time job or something you will do infrequently, you can rent a chain saw from Home Depot.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 129 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great and easy to use! It was easy to use and light weight for petite female like me. Me and husband are doing yard work by ourselves, so getting hedge trimmer was a big help for us. The only thing was it makes a loud noise. Maybe all hedge trimmer makes a loud noise just like leaf/snow blowers and lawn mower. August 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for small yard Only assembly was with a screwdriver putting shield on (see photo). No biggy. Only 16 in long, so best for small shrubs. Also makes it lightweight, which I needed. Good directions for best way to be safe and get a nice shape. Needs your own electric cord. Found a good online sale, and shipped to store for free. (pfft, who goes to HD for just 1 thing anyway!) Easy, quick, pickup at Customer Srv, and nice employee. August 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for my usage. I was looking for a lightweight, easy-to-use hedge trimmer and this fit the bill perfectly. I never used a hedge trimmer before and I had no problem trimming my barberry shrubs. My only (slightly) negative comment is that I didn't realize it didn't come with its own cord. That may have been noted somewhere in the description, but I failed to notice that. I just saw that it said "corded" and assumed that meant it had its own cord. In any case, I do have a heavy-duty, grounded extension cord that was exactly what I needed, so I was good to go right away. I think that the fact that it needs an extension cord to work should be mentioned more prominently in the description. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lightweight and easy to handle Though I have no previous experience with trimming bushes, it was as easy to control this trimmer and do a good job on the bushes around my new home. I used it on several different kinds of bushes, plus a hedge. It was even able to cut through some of the larger branches, with a little persuasion. The blades stayed sharp throughout. It is lightweight enough that, even though I have pretty weak arms and hands, it gave me little to no fatigue from holding it up. I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this trimmer for small to medium sized bushes. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product Lightweight and very maneuverable with good cutting power. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works well for small jobs Great price and works great for small evergreen trimming. Would like a way to lock it in the "on" position so you don't have to hold the button in, but otherwise easy to use. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Trimmer Better than expected. Cuts very well and is light weight. August 16, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Received parts missing happend 3 times Totally I purchased 3 same hedge trimmer through on line. All three items came with missing parts and these carton boxes looked old and badly beaten up. Definitely they are not a brand new items. I am very disappointed and never order any item from Homedepot again. August 16, 2016
