The details say "580 sq. ft. coverage-For effective purifying of large rooms on 5 air exchanges per hour," but does that mean it will be able to cover a bigger living space over a larger amount of time or is that not recommended?

For example, our living space is open, including the foyer, living room, kitchen, and hallway to the bedrooms, which would probably be over 580 sq. ft.

Answer:
SmokeStop filters utilize activated carbon to stop odors, make tobacco smoke disappear, and clear the air of VOCs. In addition to activated carbon, the SmokeStop uses the same patented HEPASilent technology as our particle filters to remove 99.97% of harmful particles from the air.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 53 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent if you own a German Shepherd We like so much this product, we are buying one for each room. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worth every penny! Yes, the Blueair 503 is a bit pricey but it performs as promised. After 3 weeks of continuous use the air quality in our home is much improved. Family visiting our home remarked at the difference and said the air has a crisp and clean quality. My daily sneezing fits have lessened considerably and there is less dust accumulation. Highly recommend, especially for allergy sufferers. Will likely purchase the Blueair 203 or 403 for the bedroom and use this 503 unit for the main living area of our home. The blue light emitted from the front panel is too bright for our bedroom so I taped a piece of cardboard over the light and it helps quite a bit. All in all, a great purchase and one we would definitely make again. PROS: quiet on all settings but the highest, works great for heavy dust accumulation, much improved air quality, easy to move from room to room CONS: not a big deal at all but you will have to move the unit from room to room (easy to move but a daily chore nonetheless); blue light is bright for sleeping May 5, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worth every penny!! This BlueAir 503 model improves air flow to the room, cleaning the air, making your home a more comfortable environment. We purchased the larger model for our family room/main level, and when we saw such immediate results, we also purchased the 200 models for two of our children's rooms. It does just as it says it will, cleans the air, helps immensely with allergies, and is literally a breath of fresh air. They are a Godsend, period. Our oldest son who doesn't struggle with allergies has been sneaking the 503 to his bedroom at night. Wish I had one in my bedroom too... It truly does make a noticeable difference in your air quality. July 23, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product Purchased two 503's one month ago. I have wood floors and see a noticeable decrease in the amount of dust. When I have company, people tell me the air quality is cleaner. I run these 24/7 May 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy breathing I recently moved downtown near a highway where there is much more car exhaust and other pollutants, and when I returned from a summer in Colorado I noticed the poor air quality immediately and began coughing a lot. It may have also been related to a fatigue-related drop in my immune system rather than air quality, plus there was construction dust from interior renovations probably cycling through my ducts as well. Whatever the cause of the coughing--pollution, dust, allergens, etc.--the cough was clearing up before I got the air purifier. But all that said, so far I love this product. My breathing is definitely freer and I seem to be sleeping a bit better. I would easily give the product 5 stars, but after a short time I honestly cannot verify its effectiveness for people with more serious respiratory conditions than my own: asthma, debilitating allergies, etc, and replacing filters isn't cheap, and I cannot "prove" that it cleared up a cough that was getting better already. But for my OWN needs, as a person with mild allergies who merely wants cleaner air in this zone of a big city, the product seems to be working very well for me. I only qualify my praise because I know some people suffer from greater problems than mine, and I can only assume that you'll love this air purifier too, but it may not be a cure-all. October 4, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Okay, the cats can stay!! Is my girlfriend a crazy cat lady? Probably not. Borderline cat hoarder? Not quite. Cat lover? Definitely!!! And I am now that I can breathe again!!! Things got pretty ugly when I gave my girlfriend an ultimatum about getting rid of her cats because of my allergies. But after looking at other alternatives including many air purifiers, we settled on a Blueair 500 series. At first I was concerned about the the cost because there were plenty of less expensive brands to chose from but after reading reviews and discovering that even hospitals use Blueair purifiers I went ahead and bought one. Five years later my Blue Air purifier is running like a top, I can still breathe and we have even added a couple more cats. November 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I have COPD so I really enjoy having my Blueair I got my Blueair in 2011. It has been wonderful, as I was diagnoised with COPD in 2000, and have alergies to dust, polen, cat/dog (I have a Dashound, that I love), mold, trees, grass, etc. (almost evertime my Dashound walks past it, it kicks up to high). It has made my life easier as don't have to spend as much time dusting. So far belonging to the filter club has been great, I don't have to remember to order filters and Blueair starts giving me email reminders 6 weeks before mailing them. I haven't had any problems with my Blueair. June 20, 2014
