Product Overview

The Brinly 42 in. Lawn Sweeper is a tow-behind tractor attachment that collects leaves and grass clippings into its high-capacity 20 cu. ft. hamper. The 5:1 gear ratio results in higher tip velocity, generating more force to lift leaves and debris up off the ground and into the hamper. Consistent brush to ground contact prevents the unit from “skipping” and passing over sections of leaves and grass clippings on the lawn. By incorporating 6 brush sections, brush to ground contact is significantly improved over traditional 4 brush designs. This is accomplished by reducing “Tip Lift” the time and distance that the brushes lift off the surface of the lawn between strokes. When not in use, the patented self-storing feature allows the unit to be stored upright to minimize the required storage space. Stop raking and put your mower to work with the Brinly 42 in. Lawn Sweeper.

  • Full-swing hamper with pull cord and T-handle for easy dumping

Plastic stripped gears

This question is from 42 in. 20 cu. ft. Tow-Behind Lawn Sweeper

Brinly states that there are two gears on each side. One plastic and one metal. Many reviewers complain of the plastic gears stripping. Brinly states that this is not a common problem yet MANY different site reviews mention it. The plastic gears are designed to ensure obsolescence so their failure is no surprise. My question to Brinly is, can a consumer upgrade to all metal gears? Do you intend to fix this problem and eliminate gear stripping? Fixing it after the sale deters me (and probably many others) from purchasing the product.

This is common. Happened to mine twice in just over a year. I am buying a different brand that does not mix metal gear with plastic wheel.

Interesting no response from Brinly! Had one company say that the plastic on metal gears was Industry standard. How about Brinly taking a step above Industry standard and produce a product that the consumer will flock to too make a purchase and leave their competitors behind.

That's a good point! They should have used all metal gears in the first place.
I've got to tell you though, I've used mine a lot and I haven't had any problems so far although I know it's inevitable. But like any mechanical device, you have to take care when using it or parts will fail prematurely. Has anybody used this sweeper with a zero turn? Will it pick up at the faster speeds and will it make the sharp turns?

Answer:
The Brinly Hardy Sweeper is designed for standard garden tractors. Towing speed at 3-5 miles per hour. Sharp turns could damage the gears or the frame of the unit.

Answer:
It will pick up at high speeds but the debris will fly right over the hamper. It does not do well on sharp corners. It works best at medium speed.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Can HARDLY wait till Fall (leaves) Assembly was 'OK', but the instructions could be tweaked a little. From the initial LOOKS of the sweeper, I assumed every little bit would be 'captured' and flung into the bag, but I'm now thinking my expectations were a bit high. It 'sweeps' 'OK', but what impressed me the most, was the EASE of dumping the debris. THOUGHT I would have to struggle with the weight, but, the sweeper is balance to the point that it was very easy to dump. NOTHING really negative to say - I'm just a Perfectionist. June 1, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great lawn sweeper but?? Directions for last steps for catch basket very hard to follow. I finally brought it back to HD and had their lawn installation team finish the build. Staff at HD had it ready the next day. I along with two mechanics could not figure it out. Thanks HD Has great pick-up (grass & leaves) easy to tow and dump. June 22, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not worth the money I had Home Depot put it together... wrong idea !! I had to take it apart and start from the beginning !! Now it doesn't pick up grass like I expected. I tried several settings and it still leaves a majority of grass on my 1 acre lawn. So, what is wrong ? Looking for help or I'm trashing it... Brinkley, email me !! Sincerely, Steve Halterman June 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Annoying instructions, good sweeper. The instructions correspond nicely with the shrink packed nuts, bolts, and washers. Then suddenly the instructions get very vague and all of section # 8 of the equipment is skipped. Save yourself the frustration and watch the YouTube video from Brinly (Brinly STS-427LXH Lawn Sweeper Assembly) for clarification. Once it was put together the sweeper did a great job on my 1.5 acre property. It doesn't do corners well due to the lack of speed to spin the brushes. Overall my lawn looks much better after using this sweeper. May 15, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Works good when it isn't broke Look at design, you've got metal gear bearings chewing up plastic other gear on the wheels, replaced 2 bearings and 1 wheel, on you second season, I am much more careful witt my sweep height now, also HD does not carry replacement parts, had to look online, home depot if you are going to carry products that fail, please carry their parts too! May 20, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hole don't match up!!!! Horrible! Absolutely horrendous! You spend so much money for a product and it's not even manufactured properly?!?!? UNREAL! We boxed it up and took it back!! Baught something else from another store!!! We are completely turned off from Brinley and would never buy another one of there products again. That did it for us! May 22, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't reach the ground! First of all, the instructions are horrible! It took hubs and I forever to put this together, and we had to back up and redo some parts because the instructions were not clear. We measured, hooked it up to our mower and the darn brushes didn't even touch the grass. It did a horrible job! Ended up taking it back to the store. There's 4 hours of my life I'll never get back! :/ go with another brand. April 24, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Gears stripped This is a great lawn sweeper, but the drive gears on the wheels stripped out. I have a small lot 75" x 200" and wanted it to pick up grass clipping. I only used it 3 or 4 times when I heard the grinding and realized the brush was not turning. The unit was purchased on 07-04-2015. I tried calling Brinley but was put on hold then went into voice mail. Also sent them an email. Still waiting for a return response. August 31, 2015
