Product Overview

The Brinly 42 in. Lawn Sweeper is a tow-behind tractor attachment that collects leaves and grass clippings into its high-capacity 20 cu. ft. hamper. The 5:1 gear ratio results in higher tip velocity, generating more force to lift leaves and debris up off the ground and into the hamper. Consistent brush to ground contact prevents the unit from “skipping” and passing over sections of leaves and grass clippings on the lawn. By incorporating 6 brush sections, brush to ground contact is significantly improved over traditional 4 brush designs. This is accomplished by reducing “Tip Lift” the time and distance that the brushes lift off the surface of the lawn between strokes. When not in use, the patented self-storing feature allows the unit to be stored upright to minimize the required storage space. Stop raking and put your mower to work with the Brinly 42 in. Lawn Sweeper.

  • Full-swing hamper with pull cord and T-handle for easy dumping
  • 42 in. sweeping width, 20 cu. ft. hamper capacity
  • Patented upright self-storage feature
  • Durable tubular steel frame
  • Universal fit
  • Hitch pin included
  • Assembled dimension: 50 in. W x 53 in. D x 26 in. H

Plastic stripped gears

Brinly states that there are two gears on each side. One plastic and one metal. Many reviewers complain of the plastic gears stripping. Brinly states that this is not a common problem yet MANY different site reviews mention it. The plastic gears are designed to ensure obsolescence so their failure is no surprise. My question to Brinly is, can a consumer upgrade to all metal gears? Do you intend to fix this problem and eliminate gear stripping? Fixing it after the sale deters me (and probably many others) from purchasing the product.
Asked by: skiouting
Of course they could use metal gears but then it would last forever and they'd be out of business.

Are the gears made of plastic or metel?

Asked by: Mac15
The pinion gear is metal. However, the drive gear is molded with the wheel and is plastic.

Has anybody used this sweeper with a zero turn? Will it pick up at the faster speeds and will it make the sharp turns?

Asked by: DlckDragon
The gears bind up and the wheels lock. You have to hit leaves going straight. My sweeper is broke right now because Brinly doesn't back up warranty and I'm waiting on replacement parts I was forced to buy from them. BEWARE

Can this (or any) sweeper be towed by a pickup truck instead of lawn tractor?

Asked by: Nickname
I would not attempt to do this truck will sit much higher than lawn mower, and speed of truck will most likely break something on sweeper.

42 in. 20 cu. ft. Tow-Behind Lawn Sweeper is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 110.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from impressed with the build These are very well built. First thing to know is they are packaged dry from factory so remove the wheels and grease the drive gear bushing and wheel bushings. Do that regularly and this machine should last your lifetime. I read tons of reviews before making this purchase, I now see the negative reviews had to be caused by poor assembly. If your hopper is dragging on the ground you need to readjust your hitch height, When using the sweeper make sure the bristles are only sweeping about 3/8 inch deep into the grass, There is a reason why John Deere paints this model green and puts there name on it, because it warrants a good reputation. Simple as that!!!

Has lasted for 1 and 1/2 summers, bad design.... the sweeping action happens from metal against the plastic wheels. I went to see about getting new wheels as the plastic teeth are all worn off the wheels but they are 40 dollars each for plastic wheels.

The Brinly sweeper works well when carefully adjusting the brush height ,testing pickup, basket height and most importantly, Drive Slow. That's where the good news ends. I've been using this sweeper for several years on three acres and have replaced both the brushes several times and the basket once. The brushes don't hold up well to stuck pine cones or twigs. The brushes get out of shape and don't have enough memory to return to their original state. My original basket held up for about 3 years. The replacement basket is half the weight due to thinner material construction. The replacement basket is already falling apart at the seams within one year of use. I am very disappointed with the new basket. The internal cam gears are not hardened well and the engaging drop pin will start to slip out of the cam gear. Once this happens the brushes will fail to turn. I refurbish the cam area of the gears with a Dremel tool and also bought a spare set for future use. For a USA made product, Brinly-Hardy could and should do better. Bring back the original heavier weight basket, Harden the cam gears, use bristles that return to their original state under unexpected debris and a little heavier gauge steel overall. I would have gladly paid a little more for a well made product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing actually works Just bought one after a lot of research. I must admit I was very skeptical that a tow behind sweeper would do a good job on our property - I was wrong. It does miss some spots because we have small hills and depressions that we mow. Assembly was easy with a well written and illustrated manual, the hardware was shrink wrapped and coded, so you can't go wrong. A lot of thought went into this.

In the areas where the cuttings were exceptionally heavy 2 or 3 passes were required, but in 2 hours I cleaned up what would have been a back breaking 10 or more hours by hand. Assembly directions for the hopper were missing a step. Otherwise, assembly was straight forward.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Major design flaw This was by far a more durable sweeper than the agrifab that finally failed for me. I have 3 acres of leaves to pickup during the fall and need a dependable tool for the job. I read the reviews and decided to try brinly. The assembly instructions were off so we had to backup and undo a few thing to get it assembled. It worked awesome for the first 5 hours of use however, the plastic gears on both wheels completely stripped out and the unit failed. My opinion, if the problem could be resolved I would buy another one. Until then, 1.5 hrs assembly for 5 hrs of results is not the return on invested I am looking for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Product You Will see a lot of negative reviews regarding the assembly process of this lawn sweeper. Do yourself a favor and go to YouTube and watch the assembly video. It's only seven minutes and you can pause between each step it's a lot easier. Just search for "brinly lawn sweeper"

Works as I would have hoped. Looking forward to use in the fall when leaves become abundant. You can have it assembled for you if needed. Not sure if there is an extra fee for assembly
