Customer Questions & Answers

I realize that the plank length is random, but are there a lot of shorter lengths per box?

Asked by: costis
Plank lengths are random and varied from box to box. In my experience, there is always a good mix in every case.

underlayment

What kind of underlayment is recommended for nail down install. Also which kind provided better sound insulation ? Thanks
Asked by: snop
Not sure about sound insulation but for nail down install, I used Trimaco 36 in. x 167 ft. Red Rosin Medium Weight Paper which is sold by home depot and is pretty good.

Plano Oak Gunstock 3/4 in. Thick x 5 in. Wide x Varying Length Solid Hardwood Flooring (23.5 sq. ft. / case) is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product should be sold as seconds Very unhappy with this product wasted more than was used Cuts are crooked and boards are not all the same width So many are warped with a lot of knots on the edges then when the milled it there are chunks missing where the knots where Some of the boards are different heights If I was installing my self I would have returned it all but I paid someone to do it and that's what I get because they knew that I would have put carpet back down and they would have been out there pay Should be twenty dollar a box instead of almost a hundred My advice don't buy unless you like to waste money on the bright side I liked the color and the finish

What bothered me more was the fact that in a lot of cases they were marked from the factory. A large amount of tongues cut off, grooves cut off (both on the edge and the ends) Occasionally, the end was not cut off square. There was a lot of planks that on the bottom was part of the bark and not usable. Color control was fairly good. Then one saving grace was that HD allowed me to return 20% of the purchased boxes. I showed them pictures of all the issues and there was no problem and was compensated for my aggravation. I worked this out before I started the project.

I just have my new and big house for my family, and replace the carpet floor. we like the hardwood floor. i paid for 137 boxes. the color is great, easy install , have to cut a lot. i have no experience to install the hardwood floor, i learned it from YouTube ^_^!!! installed it by myself. the concrete floor is harder to install. hate the glue. still not finish yet. keep going, ~~go ~~go ~~go ^_^!! will move in new house next month, wow~~~love the new floor, look great,!!!!~~~cant wait

The finish on the flooring was very good and a consistent color throughout the box. I was a bit disappointed in the number of defective pieces. Defects were found in damaged grooves, broken tongues and non-straight boards. Pieces of the boards could be used, but more scrap than I expected. I think I had less scrap using the Bruce as opposed to the Plano.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bruce flooring Short pieces varied in size (width), these pieces had to be removed and discarded causing a lot of waste. The rest of the boards had to be inspected for straight before installing, this process added significant time. If you check your pieces and are patient with the installation your floor will come out looking great.

I have used Bruce hardwood products for over 20 years, however quality control is slacking.....there were several pieces in each of 11 boxes ordered that were unusable, or had noticeable defects.....Still an overall excellent product, but you need to be certain you order PLENTY to allow for poor quality pieces.

I ended up ordering Plano Oak Marsh 5 inch wide hardwood floor after doing much research and visiting many local stores. Initially, I was not sure between 3/4 inch and 5 inch width but looking at the marginal price difference I went with 5 inch of width. The quality and price is unmatched. I completed my entire home about 915 sq. ft. with this hardwood floor and end result is awesome!! I hired flooring professional to do the job and they were surprised with the quality too, especially at this price. I ordered 42 cases initially considering little waste but ended up returning 3 cases because, there wasn't any waste. Each case covers 23.5 sq. ft. and if you do a math to cover 915 sq. ft. you would require 38.93 cases which was exactly in my case. I am really impressed with the quality of each case. What I like the most with this hardwood is - It's Oak, hardness of the wood, it's light color, evenly distributed pieces in the box and quality product from Bruce. I would definitely recommend this product !!

Finish was compromised, many boards had been angled on the down side making it impossible to lay a solid floor. I would never buy this again and I build houses. Very disappointing.
