Customer Questions & Answers

Can door height be cut down to 76"?

Existing marble threshold is unusually high. Is there sufficient wood in the core/frame to cut it down this much?
Asked by: RNA
Yes, It is a solid wood door and you do have enough room on the bottom panel.

Do these doors come bored for a lockset and door jamb? I see it's hinged, but was wondering about the locks.

Are the prehung doors pre-drilled for knobs?

I see that the hinges are already installed, but what about the knob/lockset openings in the door and on the jamb?
Asked by: John
Yes, the hole for the knob and latch is predrilled. There is not a hole for a separate deadbolt.

The actual width of my door is 29 3/4". is that considered 30" by door standards?

Bought this because I wanted the weight of solid doors to match the rest of the doors in my house. This door is solid but has a pine veneer covering it, which would be fine if the veneer stayed attached when the door is painted. After a ligh coat of primer the veneer in several sections started to blister and curl. Sanded applied a second coat of primer and it peeled the veneer a second time. I'm on a tight timeline to finish this project, and this issue has added at least 1.5 hours in labor time for each door I bought (I purchased 2). I would have returned them but considering how much time has been invested already I would be further in the hole. Not pleased at all. My $2/100... spend the money on a door that is prefinished the way you want and then just install. For what I speant on labor and materials to finish this properly, I could have just spent the same on prefinished and been less irritated. Good Luck!

My only issue is that when I removed the sticker from one of the doors, there was a wood knot that actually came out when I peeled the sticker. I had to put wood filler / few coats and sand before painting, so that was a kind of a time waster. That particular door should not have made it out of the factory. I bought 6 doors and that was only issue. Hence deduction of one star.

We had to install this door because of time restrains, but the fame for the door was not straight particularly on the top and the corners were not tight. My carpenter spent at least a half hour trying to straighten everyhthing out. I know the door is guaranteed for five years, but when you are hanging prehung door you certainly don't want to fix it before it works.

Overall it was a nice looking door I stained it urathaned one side looked good so far flipped it over on the second coat of urathane it developed two bubbles under the wood obviously it is a veneer door after all the hours I have into finishing might just have to live with it I should have inspected it better

Generally, the doors are worth the money but they do need some repair work before hanging. I found that there were sloppy staples holding the jambs together and required additional nailing to pull joints tight. There were varying degrees of chips and dents in the doors and jambs that could be swelled back out using an iron and damp cloth. Footprints on the jambs are a result of careless material handling. Checks and cracks in the surface veneers can be filled prior to a final sanding with 220 grit paper to prep for finish. If one is willing to take some time, these doors re quite attractive.

We have a good size project that we are working on in our home and are at Home Depot on a regular basis. The gentleman at the Wareham store was wonderful unlike our horrible experience with a woman at the Dartmouth location. This door had quite a bit of damage though and unfortunately we don't have the time to bring it back and reorder. My husband has been able to fix the damage because he is a contractor.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Home Depot and Jeldwen need better quality control I have installed well over a thousand doors as a professional trimmer. Quality control at the door factories must have taken a hit as a result of companies leaning hard on accounting to improve the bottom line. All 3 doors that were recently picked up from HD had quality issues that show a lack of quality control. Poorly mortised hinges, separated joints where header and jamb leg are connected, missing hinge screws and no edge bevel were problems I found on all the doors i recently installed. All of these factors would have caused a weekend warrior type problems with installing the doors.

The door was used as a linen closet door that is part of a bathroom I am remodeling at a vacation home. I like the solid core door which makes things quiet on both sides. Easy to install and it is a good looking door. I have not decided to paint white or clear coat, but will wait till sprint time for that.
