Purchased this Kamado less than a year ago. It is the most versatile method of outdoor cooking I have ever had however, in less than a year the steel base that holds the removable pan and seals the base is completely rusted away. The rest of the grill shows no signs of corrosion and this essential part cannot be replaced without replacing the entire lower half of the grill.
Love the low cost, but clearly you get what you pay for. I'll be buying another Kamado, but it won't be this one.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Brain Good product, not great
I recommend this product if you're just trying out smoking and searing meats. It will help you learn the basics but won't last as long as higher tier products. For long smokes, you have to monitor the temp pretty closely. You will also get some leakage. The grill works great for searing.
I've had this product for 9 months and probably used it 30 times. It's still in good shape, however I can see some wear and tear. At some point, I'll need to upgrade to a more expensive, but durable product.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by xavier probably the last grill i'll ever buy
I bought the Akorn as an experiment but love its versatility. I have grilled on gas, charcoal, many American grills, and Argentine grills, but this has become my favorite.
Like others, I've done breads & pizzas, grilled veggies and meats (both US grilling and Argentine grilling which is longer & lower temp) and also smoked meats. Did last year's Thanksgiving turkey with a dry brine and in the AKORN which turned out amazing. I also found it's great for stews using a Lodge dutch oven.
I have not encountered any of the mechanical issues others have described. My Akorn is over 2 years old now, but always stored outside with a cover on. unlike my other chargriller grill, it hasn't developed rust or worn out any parts, except the grill grate which was probably my fault from overheating (>700 degrees)
I would highly recommend that you don't rely on the dome thermometer and instead invest a few $s in a wireless probe that can do both the grill and meat temperatures. Amazing Ribs website has excellent post on why and some recommended products.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by BobOki Amazing value for the price!
I got this over a year ago when I started my adventures in smoking, and for the price this was an AMAZING value. It will do normal BBQ without an issue, but the smoking sets this thing apart. It is so amazingly sparing with how much Lump charcoal it uses, I can easily do a 15 hour smoke on a single pit worth. You will need to grab a few extra pieces, like an extra grate, a heat diverter (I use a pizza stone), aluminum drip catcher. All-in-all it is very easy to put together, it seals quite well, and there are tons of extra pieces you can buy to make this better. I picked up a Cyber-Q temperature control extra and it works amazingly with this grill.
Not as many options as it's cousins, but at over $1000 less, it more than makes up for it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by fantasticalice They aren't lying about how good this grill is!
You will want to watch some Youtube videos and make up your own mind. You can find someone locally and visit with them. This thing does exactly what it says, maintains a steady heat with simple adjustments of the dampers. Yes, there sure is a learning curve. You are going to have so much fun! Watch the fellow who smokes the 2 whole chickens and do that one 1st...it's super easy and it works. The birds are amazing! I use both lump coal and the coal from Trader Joes. Avocado wood is just awesome in here as are all the other hard woods.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by dave Excellent Grill + heat control suggestion
Very well built - I am pleased with the excellent Chicken : Smoky & Crisp !
Two Issues :
(1) It was a pain to clean the grease from the inside surfaces : I now line the inner wall with Al foil = easy cleanup.
(2) I had problems the first time keeping the temp under 400 degrees with the charcoal on the bottom grate. Get a cheap 10" stainless steel mesh colander for the charcoal . It is a near
perfect solution to keep the temps in the 350-375 degree chicken cooking range, and its easy to remove and shake out the ash for reuse !
