Customer Questions & Answers

Having trouble installing brackets? How do these brackets snap into place? Is there a trick? Should I position the back of bracket first?

Asked by: Annmarie
On the Superslide 16" shelving the J-Hook fits back from the edge about 4 inches between the next two metal rods welded underneath and parallel to the edge.

the closet rod support bracket won't snap in do I get it to stop rocking when I hang something on the rod?

I keep thinking my bracket is going to fall off the rack whenever I hang or remove clothing.

The few flaws in their design show up here. Unless everything lines up just perfect. The shelves pop out. They should make a clip that snaps into the rails and locks the shelf. A simple fix is take a tie wrap and put it around the edge of the shelf and the tabs so that they can no longer work their way backwards. It is a very sturdy system and I like it beyond a couple of bad design ideas.

Will these brackets work on a 20 inch shelf?

Asked by: Bob
Closetmaid should know they don't manufacture a 20" depth superslide shelf. The 20" depth is the pantry shelf.

I cannot seem to hang these support brackets, is there a difference between brown and white shelving?

The brown shelving is not new.
Asked by: Lynn
These brackets only work with ClosetMaid SuperSlide Shelving.

And one just broke! THE SHELF WAS OVERLOADED....FOR 18 years !!!! For those that rated these low I'm not sure that they are valid complaints. I am a general contractor and have used all versions of Closetmaid (and competitors) over the years. This superslide system performs satisfactorily. They now make a METAL version of this bracket which I am replacing the broken brackets with. As one reviewer appropriately advised, just install more than the recommended 3' spacing for better performance (i.e. 2' spacing or even 18" )

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Old version of rod support better than new version I like Closetmaid wire closet systems. The cost adds up with all the individual parts but it's an efficient way to organize closet space. I just reorganized a closet and installed more superslide closet rods. In the process I recycled some old closet support brackets and incorporated some new ones. The old ones are better, being a much more snug fit. The new ones work but the old ones are

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Serves purpose As noted, this rod support bracket will break, usually after years of overloaded service. Replacing one is cheap, and quick. Not noted by reviewers is that if you overload the system, as most of us probably do, you can add more of these brackets along the rod--you do not have to pair them with a shelf support bracket (the one that goes to the wall). If you really like to load the shelves and rods, then either install wall and rod brackets every two feet (2'), add additional supports in an existing installation, or look for a more expensive solution. This product is a nice balance of price/performance/ease of installation. With reasonable expectations, you will be pleased.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good design Nicely designed closet rod support lets hangers slide past it. The nexk of the hanger must be not be too short. For example skirt hangers and most of my sturdy metal hangers wouldn't slide past it. Nearly all of my plastic hangers had no issues.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 10's before failure I have had these for about ten years. For no real reason the top lip had broken on one and before we could get all of the weight off of the rest others failed too. For them to be this brittle after ten years is poor engineering. To not used these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Closet rod bracket The ClosetMaid closet rod support bracket UPC #5629 is weak where the shelf hooks in the front of the bracket. I installed three of these on a 5" rod and two have broken. And needless to say everything ended up on the floor.
