How do you install this light
Asked by: Char
It has three metal prongs that you pull out to be fully extended, then you shove it into your canister. You then rotate the fixture clockwise to firm the grip and get it flush with the ceiling.

What kind of dimmable switch should i buy for this product? I plan to replace my old recessed lights in my kitchen. I would be needing nine cree recessed downlights.

A CL rated dimmer - Lutron best - CL stands for compact florescent and LED. They have a diagram that allows you to set the lowest point since LED's don't dim quite as low as incandescent bulbs. Wouldn't recommend the florescent bulbs....

What is the difference between this product and the similar Cree TW Series 65W Equivalent Soft White (2700K) 6 in. Dimmable LED Retrofit Recessed Downlight (product #DRDL6-06227009-12DE26-1C100)?

I tried to figure this out too. As best as I can tell, the SRDL6 produces more lumens with fewer watts. The Color Rendering Index is the same. Also, from the dates on the documentation, the SRDL6 may be the newer model. This model is listed as current on the Cree website.

Does anyone know what the BLACK and RED wires are? Hot and Neutral? Which is which?
Asked by: Holbywan
I'm can't answer that, but it should not make a difference, as the wires are connected to a base that screws into your existing fixture. I have to assume Cree has wired them with the correct polarity.

These are much better and brighter lights for our kitchen. We were limited to the 50 watts due to heat build up. When we tried brighter bulbs the heat triggered the can fixture to sporadically turn off their power until they cooled down. These LEDs do not cause any heat problems. I am satisfied with their color rendering. These were almost as easy to install as another light bulb. I would recommend these to anyone to try. I am very happy with these. Oh, and they are much cheaper to operate than incandescent bulbs.

Of note is that when the dimmer is fully down, the lights still illuminate a little (the old incandescent lights appeared to be completely off at full dim mode). The side-effect is that because they don't completely shut off at full-dim, it helps me to remember to actually turn the switch off rather than relying on just the dimming feature.

Had to buy new dimmer switches for LED lights, but that is okay. In my kitchen I have two sets of two lights each and one set of three lights, each set controlled by its own dimmer switch (LED type). The two light sets can be adjusted to a low level (close to off). However, and I'm not sure where the problem lies, with the three light set controlled by an identical dimmer switch as the two light sets, the light level adjustability really suffers - maybe only half way down. It is very obvious that the dimming capability suffers with a three light set-up and I don't know why.

It took me a couple of minutes to figure out how to extend the " ears", the direction talk about twisting the base, which is not so. Once I figured that out, it is like installing a light bulb, so simple. They look great, and the light is bright, but not too bright. And they emit a pleasant natural light as well. The price is within a dollar or two of using par38 led bulbs, but they look much neater! A great value and highly recommended for the do-it-yourselfer!

This product was easy to install and provides excellent evenly distributed light. I tried other brands of similar design that had springs to be attached inside the can. It was impossible to manage standing on a ladder reaching up and being unable to see where I was working. The design of the Cree eliminates all that fuss. It takes no more time to install one than to screw in an standard lightbulb. Also very competitively priced.

However, these are not compatible with most Lutron dimmers, even LED compatible ones already sold in Home Depot. When these lights were all installed and I turned them on, they made a very audible buzzing that was too loud to ignore. After contacting both Cree and Lutron, the overall conclusion was that the two were not compatible. For reference, the Lutron dimmer I used was the DVCL-153PR. I'm extremely disappointed and surprised that Cree wouldn't test these lights with the most commonly used brand of dimmers, especially those currently being sold. I had to bring about 20 of these back to the store and look for another brand that did bother to test their products. Overall, very disappointed. Please be sure to go to the Lutron website and check compatibility with this before you purchase!

We have been using this trim/lamp for years now in many projects and really like it. It really makes a clean, bright look. The color that is emitted, the dimmability, the way and amount of light that it emits is comparable to a 90 watt par lamp. Think of the savings at 10.5 watts each! We always tell our customers if they want the best LED lamps to get Cree - most dependable of the LED products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Incandecent Replacement with LED's I have been wanting to replace my incandescent bulbs in my cans with LED's for a while now. The problem was finding an LED bulb (BR30) with a thin neck to fit in my bulb rings in the cans. Most all BR30 LED's have a thick neck and wouldn't fit in my can rings. Some are thinner but not enough. Until now. I was able to replace the old rings with these and have LED's in my cans; finally! I tried the 5,000k brightness LED's but found them to be too white (the are like flourecent lights). The 2700k was perfect and still are very bright but warm. They go in unisom with my existing lamps that can't use LED's due to the halogen connectors. Installation was a breeze. Just remove the old bulbs and rings, screw these in and push them in place. Three minute each per can. Just awasome, you won't go wrong with these. Oh, and they can be used in wet areas, like bathrooms and porch where humidity is present. No bugs to get into them either.
