Answer:
The ice cream doesn't get very solid. It'll have the texture of partially melted ice cream so you would have to put it in the freezer afterwards

Answer:
No salt or ice. you will have to freeze the removable bowl for 13-16 hours, and that gets cool enough to form ice cream.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 24 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful Ice cream maker! Love it! It makes wonderfully creamy coconut milk ice cream. 2 cans of full fat coconut milk + 1/2 sugar. good plain or you can add fruit, vanilla, or cocoa. We also use maple syrup for topping. A little sticks to the sides and bottom but not much. We use a wooden spoon to scrape sides and bottom without damaging the bowl. Maybe 1/2 cup gets stuck-this happens with most freezers so I really do not find it as a fault on this particular unit. Just a minor inconvenience. Great for food allergies. Better than store bought. Daughter likes to watch the bowl spin through the see through cover. July 7, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by dissappointing It made excellent tasting ice cream. It makes approx 4 cups but when I try to remove the ice cream, I can only remove about 2 cups, The rest is instantly frozen solid around the sides and bottom. By the time I buy the heavy cream, milk, sugar and vanilla, $6 is a lot to pay for 2 cups of ice cream. I am going to return this. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for our needs This maker is very nice. The shelf space it ocupies is minimal and the use is easy and straight foward. August 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great ice cream maker I have owned another ice cream maker but this one really out does it in texture and freezing also it's a lot quieter. I will probably never buy ice cream again. September 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Product The Cuisinart Automatic Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker is an excellent product. It is a Must-Have for ice cream or frozen yogurt lovers. With this ice cream maker you can modify recipes to make low-calorie , low-fat, or no-sugar deserts. It produces both ice cream and yogurt that is equivalent to what you would find in a store or restaurant. All this in 30 minutes. July 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful / Easy We are very happy with this ice cream maker. Easy - no messing with ice. Just put the container in the freezer and pull it out when you are ready to make ice cream. It is a little noisy but you can always put it in a different room. Works wonderful and makes real good ice cream. We have tried others and we feel this is the best on the market. June 8, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Unsealed Box - No instructions Bought online. Apparently an opened box. Unsealed box in poor condition with no paper work. July 16, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works well I bought this because I am diabetic and needed more than just sugar free vanilla ice cream. I wanted also a sugar free sherbet. This product allows me to make whatever flavor I want. I found that following the recipes in the book that comes with it does not work well using a sugar substitute, so some recipes need to be modified a little. After making slight modifications the ice cream is great. Still working to adjust the recipes for some flavors though. That turns out to be some of the fun of it, I get to experiment a little.
