Customer Questions & Answers

Can this be used for ceramic tile over plywood?

Asked by: Chris
NEVER install ceramic tile directly on plywood. Why? The plywood expands and contracts with humidity and temperature changes. Very slightly, but it does move. Ceramic or porcelain tile will move too, but SIGNIFICANTLY less than plywood. What happens when plywood is shrinking or expanding, and the tile can't keep up? Cracks, grout joints crumbling, and tile coming loose. Use some backer system - a concrete board or uncoupling membrane.

I'm laying a 5/16 in thick (10in x 14in) ceramic tile. As this tile is almost at the 15in threshold, should I use "Flexbond" or the "Natural Stone and Large Tile" mortar??
Asked by: John
I would probably use large tile thinset, but I'm sure either one will work just fine if the application process is correct.

What is the dry time at 50 degrees?

Asked by: Mike
Not sure. It sets up at 60 degrees in 18 hours, to the point that you can step on the tile without worry. I would wait at least 24 hours at 50 degrees.
