garage floor has chips as deep as 1/2 inch will this work to redo the floor before i lay tile

Asked by: Anonymous
Absolutely. It may take a little more than a day to completely set. I have built up areas to at least half and inch and had no issues. The cost is the only issue. A little of this stuff does not go a long way!

Can I use this to put on a wall behind my wood stove ? I need to level out some uneven painted brick prior to placing tiles... I want to know if this product will work on vertical surfaces and not just floors.
Asked by: Kel
We would recommend the use of our SpeedFinish Patching and Finishing Compound for your project; the paint on the brick would have to be mechanically removed prior to use. For further assistance please contact our installation division at 800.272.8786 option 2

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage never dries Says cracks or holes need to fill a 1/4 I'm at a time then let it dry. When they say minor they mean cracks or holes you shouldn't even have to worry about

This is NOT for self-leveling. This is NOT for filling deep holes (> 1/4") with only one application. And, this is NOT for creating a super-smooth surface! So many reviews show how the reviewers are blaming this patch for not being what it isn't meant to be! The directions make its correct usage very clear. What this is excellent for is filling small cracks and minor depressions over wood, concrete, ceramic tile, etc. It is sandy, so it won't provide a glassy surface like soupy self-leveling underlayment. But that's not what it's for! I used it to fill and level the wide grout lines in my kitchen and hallway ceramic floors before laying vinyl plank flooring over it (see photos). It applied easily using a 3" (dollar store!) putty knife. I used a large cottage cheese container as my working container, keeping the product bucket closed to prevent it from hardening. It worked very well! It spread smoothly and quickly. There is no offensive odor. Reviewers who say it dries very slowly just can't be right, unless they are piling it on way too thickly. I used an oscillating table fan on the floor to promote a fast set and it was hard in about 5 hours. The one downgrade I give this patch is that there will be some shrinkage. Even though the grout line depressions in my tile floor were definitely no deeper than 1/4", the patch did shrink just a bit - leaving a very slight depression, but nothing that should affect the vinyl plank flooring. So, if no depression whatsoever is desired, plan on applying a second coat. I used the putty knife to scrape off any clumps of patch I accidentally created to prevent them from causing lumps in the soft vinyl flooring over time. Overall I'm very satisfied and recommend this product, but only for the INTENDED uses in its directions, folks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from it works Reading all these reviews after using this product is hilarious. I am a carpenter by trade but I don't feel that gives me any advantage over reading the instructions. This is made to "patch" a "minor dip or imprefection". It clearly states not to lay on more than a 1/4" of the mix at a time. You're also going to have a bad time if you are using this in place of Ardex (or any self leveling compound), That is not what this product is made for. Seeing pictures of people going to town with a belt sander or complaining that the hole was only a 1/2" deep just makes me smile, they probably still think it's all the products fault too.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wasn't what I expected This patch has a sandy consistency. It's not a super-smooth patch. I found that I had to go over dips in my concrete slab a second time the next day, as my first pass on them shrunk a bit. The problem is that when you apply a second time, you will level the dip but the edges around the dip will now be too high. It's probably possible to skim that level (with great effort), but I left it as it was. The sandy consistency made it much harder to apply and add a second coat than a smooth type of floor product (which my flooring company used while putting down my floor). I also had aLOT left over in the container when I was done.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for outdoor use. The website Specifications indicates that this filler is for Indoor/Outdoor use. The container instructions (which I only read after purchase and return home) state "Indoor Use Only".

Rated 3 out of 5 by from EZ application I liked the ease of use of a ready to mix product, but it does come with a price difference. There was also some cracking on larger gaps, but the dried product is very hard.
