Q:What’s the total drilling depth it will drill
by|Feb 5, 2024

Answer This Question

A:  It says in the description that it's 7 and 1/2 in long.

Q:I need this to be longer. is there an extension I can use with this bit?
    by|Nov 8, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Probably, just make sure that it will handle the torque. And that it is small enough to fit in the hole, which shouldn't be a problem here.

Q:Will the 5/8" dia. auger bit be the correct bit to drill 6"x6" treated wood deck columns for 5/8" dia. galv. bolts? Is the hole internal diameter after drilling slightly oversized?
      by|May 19, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  A 5/8 bit will drill a 5/8 hole. Fresh (wet) lumber might swell back into the hole, so you have to do some tapping with a hammer to get the bolt all the way through the finished hole, but that's a good thing. A nice tight water-proof seal.

Q:Have the 7/8 auger bit. What is the recommended rpm to use it?
        by|Apr 12, 2023
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  For auger bits, you need an auger drill, as it is geared down so the motor doesnt bog down while making the hole. It pulls the bit into wood and needs the torque a standard drill does not poses. Regular dont work, Auger drills are about $300-400 +

          Wrong size
Really its not HD’s fault. I ordered a 3/8” auger bit, the package says 3/8”, even the drill bit has 3/8” etched on it, however the actual size of the bit is 5/16”. Quality control at Diablo needs to be tightened up

Good Bit as long as drill has enough torque to pull it.
Bought this bit for tree killing and root killing yes its overkill but thats OK. Works great as long as your drill has enough balls to pull it in. Drill damage is not the bits fault. It's the users.

              Cheap materials
I'm a residential electrician, have a lot of drilling in new homes. I purchased this bit hoping it would perform. It did not. The bit is labeled as nail embedded wood, the first bit I purchased made it through 2½ houses before the tip snapped off, making it very difficult to finish the job. I then exchanged it for a new one. Out of the package it made 13½ total holes before the tip snapped again. I'm drilling new 2x4 and 2x6 some with nails from framing. Soft wood. It touches a nail and it's broken. Would not recommend or purchase again.

I bought this auger for our technicians who routinely have to drill into utility Poles to mount hardware. So far so good. Very sharp and chews through wood very quickly, time will tell as to how long it stays that way. Really can't go wrong for the price and being available at your local home depot store.

I was experimenting with a way of adding low voltage lighting to 4x4 fence posts. I wanted to hide the wiring inside the posts so I needed a long drill bit. I choose the Diablo 3/4 in. Auger bit as I felt it would get the job done and be versatile enough for future projects (Tree house). Boring diagonally, the bit came out about 10 inches down, but straight down it reached 15 inches. My plan is to run the cable though the PVC railing and then down the inner wooden post about 10 inches. Note: The bit cuts fast, after about 5-6 inches I had to back it out to get all the chips out before continuing.

I occasionally need long reach wood bits and this Diablo 3/4 inch x 17.5 inch bit will come in handy. It has a 7/16 hex shank and bests works in a drill that you can operate with two hands because of the extra torque it takes to drill a 3/4 inch diameter hole in most thicker woods. The 7/16 hex shank worked perfectly with my quick release 7/16 hex shank drill. You could use this auger in a lighter drill, if your drilling thinner boards or drill slower. The maximum listed RPM is 600. The auger is designed for nail embedded wood/boards and seems very durable and strong. Overall I am very pleased and expect to use this auger bit for several years.

Great ship auger. I drilled through a cured maple log no problem. The bit was still sharp and the pulling threads on the tip were too. It then drilled clean holes through studs without splitting them. This is designed to work with a quick connect drill chuck or regular chuck. It comes with a decent case that holds the base secure so that the bit tip doesn’t poke a hole in the end of the case and become exposed.

I don't use auger bits on a daily basis. I got this one because of it's length. I've got a special project where I need to drill 3/4" inch diameter holes lengthwise about 16 inches through 4x4s. This bit keeps its edge so much better than the cheap, no-name brands. After 25 holes, it's still cutting like brand new. I love the carrying case. Throwing an expensive bit in the bottom of my toolbox bothers me. If I invest this much money, I don't want it getting damaged by other bits and objects. There is nothing wrong for me to report. Just a heads up, this large bit will drain 18V batteries quick. If you intend to drill many holes, go corded or have a few batteries as backup. Next thing, because of its length (contact surface area), it can bind. If your drill has a side handle, you may want to attach it out and avoid high speeds.

I needed a long auger bit to drill through several garage door headers prior to wiring up some can lights over the doors, so I decided to give this DIABLO 3/4 in. x 17-1/2 in. Auger Bit a try. The long length of this bit makes drilling overhead through a thick header easy and convenient. The bit is self-feeding and bores through framing lumber almost effortlessly. Waste is pushed out of the cutting area efficiently so the bit keeps going without frequent removal to clear the chips. This bit is rated for use on nail-embeded wood, so it is appropriate for a range of electrical and plumbing projects. I've owned a number of Diablo bits and have always found them to be strong and long-lasting. I'm pleased with this product - highly recommended!

This one of the best drill bits I have ever owned. Goes through hardwood without putting pressure down on the drill. Stays sharp so far. Holes are smooth and not ragged as some other bits. Carrying case to protect the bit is a great addition. Flat spots on the shank that make the drill grab and get full power without slipping in the Chuck. I highly recommend this bit!
