Answer:
I added a dab of calk inside each of the four corners and pushed the cap onto the post. It holds it in place rather nicely but it can be removed if ever needed.
You could just push onto the post, but time and weather will likely cause it to fall off.

Our posts are 3 1/4 by 3 1/4. Do we buy 4x4 to fit over? Or, do caps come in 3 1/4 by 3 1/4?

Answer:
The caps are actually 3-5/8" square which matches nominally dimensioned "4X4" lumber. If your post is slightly smaller, just add thin shims to make up the difference. If your post is slightly larger, just sand off some of the post to match the cap.

Answer:
The sheet metal is very thin - about 0.020" thick, and is non-magnetic. So it's either solid copper or copper plated aluminum.

Answer:
If you’re looking to maintain the shiny look of the post point, we recommend applying a car wax immediately after purchasing the cap, and reapply every 3 to 6 months. In its natural state, copper breaks down in the elements and develops a patina. In general, copper progresses from a natural salmon color to a series of russet browns and grays, and finally to a blue-green or gray-green patina.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good purchase The product is well made, attractive and will do the required job. November 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product at a great price Base of cap measures 3-5/8 square - perfect for 4x4 (nominal) lumber. Simply add a dab of calk inside each of the four corners (to hold in place) and push onto post. Quite elegant actually. April 23, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Product is NOT as described! The description of this product says "COPPER Pyramid"! The product is NOT COPPER! It is painted tin. I would not have bought this product if I had know it was painted tin. Your description of this product is VERY misleading! August 5, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by works fine product is simple and effective. don't expect the surface shine to last forever. This is my third replacement on 10 posts over 8 years. First tried adhering with liquid nails. This last a few years but as the caps blew off I now use gorilla glue; so far so good after 1+ year. April 29, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Touch of Elegance They are inexpensive and makes the post look better. I have used these types of post point caps for 20 years on multiple properties that I have owned. The only negative is that eventually the clear coat deteriorates and the thin copper coating discolors. I think the underlying metal is steel. It is not solid copper so you cannot polish it to bring back the shine when it is new. But I find that an acceptable tradeoff with the low price. January 27, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by NOT FOUR INCHES!!! I paid shipping because these cannot be shipped to any local store. I waited a week. The caps are about 3.75" square. My posts are 4". Bad bad bad. January 25, 2014
