Product Overview

Achieving a vintage, time-worn look is simple if you start with the right paint.  With Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint, creating beautiful home decor and furniture pieces does not require skills or hours of training.  Make store-bought pieces or flea market finds look like they came from a European estate sale or a French countryside cottage by using Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint.

  • Water-based, low odor
  • For a protected matte finish, just rub on without buffing, buffing will create a glossier sheen, no need to re-apply wax - initial coat provides long lasting durability
  • Apply sparingly, do not over wax, too much wax will leave a finished surface feeling tacky, rub off excess wax
  • Waxes clean easily off brushes with soap and water, finished pieces can also be cleaned gently with a damp rag
  • Final packaging may vary
  • Online Price includes Paint Care fee in the following states: CA, CO, CT, MN, OR, RI, VT

Answer:
Yes. Chalk paint needs to be "sealed" so it stays on the piece you painted. If not sealed, waxed, it can rub off. Best sealer is a chalk paint wax. Apply it with a rag, rubbing lightly over the surface. Let it dry for 24 hours before doing a second wax coat....helps the finish last longer and protects the surface if it is going to be in a heavy use area such as a table or chairs.

You can also go over the final piece after waxing with a coat of polyurethane if the table might get wet.

How long does this wax take to fully cure?

I only did a section of my piece that I am working on to see the color, which is now where near what was indicated on the container or any sites, so I have decided to go with a different color. I would like to know how long I should wait before I can paint over this section. I did a light first coat of wax and it has been dry for 2 days. Other brands say a couple of weeks though.

Answer:
Chalk paint wax is usually fully cured within 30 days....very much like polyurethane. You can apply a second coat after 24 hours if it is going to be used daily such as a table or chair.
Give it time to cure and it will look great for years.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Really "Wax" I have refinished a ton of furniture for customers and for my own home and this product is just OK. Firstly it is important to understand that it is not at all a wax. It is more similar to a matte acrylic glaze. The negatives are it is tacky and runny while applying, difficult to apply evenly to a larger surface, seems to be less durable than a real wax finish, and really leaves a raw, unfinished, unprofessional look. Also it will yellow if applied too thickly or if it accumulates in corners. The positives are it is not smelly and toxic, and it can brush on and buff up nicely on smaller sized pieces like picture frames or mirrors. Also cool is that if you really like the raw, chalky look, and get frustrated by the rich sheen that real waxes provide, this does actually give that chalky finish and does not deepen the color of the paint at all. For my purposes (resale and painting for clients) I am more comfortable with other products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great wax Not inexpensive, but I'm happy with the results over painted cabinets...this goes over the paint, I buff it out, apply the brown wax, then apply another coat of this. The finished drawer-fronts and doors are easy to clean and seem to be holding up well.....no scratches or scrapes. Would use this product from now on with all of these type of projects

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Regrets! I bought this product because I had tried minwax and hated it and was too cheap to fork out the big bucks for the Annie Sloan. I also bought a waxing brush from another site to use it with. It goes on so easily and buffs to a beautiful shine. I will definitely buy this again! It does a great job and is so much more budget friendly that the other wax out there. It's my new best friend.
