For those who demand ultimate peace of mind, Defender's 16-Channel Smart Security Cameras are designed to protect your home or office, keeping your building safe and crime-free. This system includes a 1TB HDD to provide up to 4 years of recording and advanced IR image filtering for color accuracy. The patented sleek, modern appearance of Defender cameras is complemented by its durable, vandal-resistant design that ensures hassle-free installation and functionality. Defender systems are ideal for protecting a wide range of outdoor applications and larger locations including building perimeters and parking lots.

  • 1TB HDD allows for continuous monitoring and can store over 4 years’ worth of recorded footage, maximizing available memory with motion-activated recording and H.264 compression technology
  • DVR alerts activate to notify user when HDD is full so you can backup and transfer footage to USB flash drive or external hard drive
  • Ultra hi-res, crisp, color-enhanced imagery with 600 TV lines of resolution; when lighting conditions are unfavorable, the advanced IR filter automatically activates to purify reds, greens, yellows and blacks that may otherwise appear washed out or faded
  • 110 ft. of hi-res night vision at zero lux; camera automatically activates infrared illumination with 38IR LEDs for clear identification of objects in complete darkness
  • Weather-tight design with IP65 rating means camera is completely protected from dust and typical adverse rain conditions; a sleek sunshade also protects from additional glare that can affect image quality
  • Adjustable anti-vandal wall mount allows installation at almost any angle for the best view; Allen keys enable secure adjustments so that vandals, elements or time cannot readjust the set angle
  • Meets general building codes and insurance requirements with fire-rated cables; each camera includes 65 ft. of pro FT4 rated black cabling for direct installation to walls and framework (please check local building code requirements and insurance policy)
  • Monitor remotely with Internet connection using up to 7 secure user profiles, enabling live viewing anytime or anywhere via Internet, smartphone or tablet
  • Review previously recorded footage from any computer with an Internet connection; email alerts with photo can be sent when unexpected motion is detected
  • 8 cameras let you customize each area and custom-name individual channels to easily identify the location; a masking feature lets you block out a portion of the scene from an individual camera such as a cash register or safe while still seeing activity around the masked area
  • Covert feature can protect an entire channel from public or user viewing so only authorized viewers can see activity in that location; other viewing options include full screen, quad screen, 9-channel view, 16-channel view and sequence switching; each recorded area is complete with time and date stamp so you can search by event
  • Ready to connect with up to 16 surveillance cameras for maximum monitoring both indoors and out; DVR is also compatible with PTZ camera
  • Easy to set up and use with menu that provides prompts and coaching to customize settings, while mouse or remote lets you navigate icon-based menu; it’s so simple it will begin recording as soon as it’s plugged in
  • Lifetime live customer support can be reached by phone, email and live web chat, available in English, Spanish and French
  • 1-Step Remote Viewing software application (available as a free download for PC and Mac) auto-networks your DVR in less than 5 minutes; simply input your DVR’s IP address (found in the menu) into the connection program on your computer, click “Sync to Router” and 1-Step will automatically do the rest

Customer Reviews

Connected 16-Channel 1TB Smart Security DVR with (8) 600 TVL Ultra Hi-Res Indoor/Outdoor Cameras is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 47.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from not recomended Worked ok the first 6 months and then started having HD problems, and just over the one year mark the HD in system failed and support will not replace. Took unit to a local repair shop the HD installed in the unit is a standard computer HD and not really made for a security system, then spoke with the hd manufacture that sell this hd an found it is made more for the personal pc they also sell a HD made for security systems that will handle the recording demands which costs only $10 more. You would think for $600 they could spend the extra $10 and provide what the customer expects

Rated 1 out of 5 by from fair hardware but the software is terrible! You only get 240 line images! This system seems to be solidly built. The cameras have metal housings, and everything plugs together without problems. The infra-red lights on each camera are great for filming at night. Installation and deployment revealed numerous problems however... 1. The hi-res cameras are capable of 600 lines. The DVR unit however forces them to operate in 240 line mode and the firmware does not allow one to select a higher resolution! All the resultant images and video are thus limited to 352x240 pixels. Tech support said they do this on the 16 channel models to reduce memory demands. Well, I am only recording video when there is motion detected, so why not let the customer decide if they want to use the capability of the cameras? I am forced to use low resolution for every camera. Why tout the hi-res capability of the cameras if we can never use that capability? 2. The software used to configure the system, view videos, capture frames is absolutely awful. It is poorly designed and buggy. Examples: 2a. in the playback screen one can zoom the timeline to get better granularity, but there is no ability to scroll the timeline horizontally, so if you are interested in seeing a video later in the day you can only see it on the timeline if zoomed out. 2b. There is a setting to have the system roboot itself periodically (a sure sign that the DVR firmware is unstable) and every time it does, it sends an alert email stating that the cameras (which have never been connected) are missing. 2c. The ability to view or configure the system via a web browser is limited to Internet Explorer only. Firefox and Chrome do not work. The ActiveX plug-in needed is not signed. The software to configure the system is Windows only. Third party smartphone software is available to view the cameras 2d. Error messages and prompts have been poorly translated into English. “Log out firstly”, “no find! CH03” etc. 2e. Setting up additional users failed. 2f. The .avi videos that the DVR produced would not play on my Windows system. To get usable videos, I have to export in .264 format and use the supplied ‘avi generator’ to convert each file to .avi format. 2g. The computer software does not have any help text whatsoever. The ‘help’ menu item just tells us the version number. The PDF manual describes how to drive the UI instead of explaining what the settings do. 2h. Settings, such as playback speed, have to be set every time one plays back a video even in the same session! 2i. In the standalone software, the area for configuring the DVR is NOT under the ‘Config’ tab but rather under a right click menu of the device! 2j. Pop up screens do not get dismissed as one expects in a GUI. E.g. ‘Save’ does not also close the dialog. 3. The CD that comes with the system is a mini CD. This cannot be read by vertical drives and my laptop machine also could not read it. I found a server on my network with a horizontal CD drive and copied it over the network to install the software. 4. Tech support was not familiar with this new model and had no idea what the E-Map feature of the software was for at all. They did not offer to find out either. 5. The cameras have a cable with two plugs which plug into the 65’ cables that provide power and take the video signal back to the DVR. These plugs make fishing the cables through walls etc way more difficult than needed. If the length of the two leads were made slightly different in length, then the plugs would not be next to each other and would then be able to fit through a much smaller hole. 6. When the cameras switch between color and b/w infra-red mode they make an audible click which can draw attention to the camera. 7. The manual says to make sure the DVR is secured but there is no loop on the unit that one could use to lock it, not even a laptop style security hole that would allow a laptop lock to secure the DVR to something. 8. The screws supplied to mount each camera are too small. Use exterior decking screws instead. Overall, the low resolution and crummy crummy software is very disappointing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Chrisp, clear pictures from cameras. The resolution from the cameras was much better than expected. After transferring a recorded image onto a portable media, I was able to use the zoom features (up to 300% of image size) without experiencing distortion of the image. Higher zooms (over 300%) became distorted due to pixelation of the image. The night vision is fantastic, and the feature where the cameras automatically switch views from day to night is incredible. I did not use the the motion detection option. We have dogs on the property that would constantly have the cameras activate with their movements. The mounts for the cameras could not rotate a full 180 degrees (vertically) to allow inverted mounting under the eaves. They do rotate up to 90 degrees for wall mounting. I was able to construct a base that would allow the cameras to be mounted in these locations. The system did not come with a user or installation manual. We were able to download a manual from the manufacturer's website that allowed us to get the basic system up and running. However, we could not find any information for the cameras that were supplied with the system. We have an iMac and the instructions give no options for Apple users. Since there are more and more Apple software users everyday, it would be nice if they gave the available options or additional software needed to set up the networking portion of this system. I run software that allows a Windows format to be used. For video viewing, we are using a 37" LCD flatscreen TV for viewing and playback. The size allows greater viewing area and detail. As a word of caution, if you do not have some computer programming skills, and some audio/video knowledge, you may run into some issues. I suggest you consider having a trained technician install your system. The installation and programming for this system is not a weekend project for the occasional DIY'er. Oh yes, one last bit of advice; get a battery back-up (UPS) for the DVR and cameras. Crime doesn't stop when the power goes out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great system!! We purchased this for a new addition to our garage. Although we did not install all cameras, we feel we have every angle covered and even have space inside under Defender's watchful eye. Perfect system with add-to capability. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Service: I had an older 8 channel dvr with 4 camera. It was nice and did the job. I added 4 more camera. I saw a friend of my who had the 16 channel system an the new iPhone alp for viewing: so I upgraded to a 16 channel system with a 2 TB hard drive and 8 camers. I can now review the camera recording from the phone. I had a problem and called Defender I got hold of Michel and explained the problem I was having. He had the problem resolved in about 10 min time. In the future If I have any problem I will ask for him, because it was like he was sitting next to me when he told me what to do.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Everything you need for a basic security system This package makes it very easy to set up a video surveillance system for your home or business. It includes everything you need to get started, including the cameras, hard disk DVR, and all the cables to connect everything. Installation is pretty straight forward, connect the cameras with the supplied cable to the DVR and turn it on. You can then configure the settings to your liking to include motion activated recording as well as monitoring your system over the internet. It is certainly not the best system out there, but for the price and ease of use, you can't beat it. One major complaint I have about this product: The only documentation comes on a CD-ROM. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but for some reason the company decided to use a mini-disc instead. The optical drives in most computers nowadays ARE NOT compatible with mini-discs. This disc was useless to me. Fortunately for me I'm tech-savvy enough that I didn't need the documentation, but this is a huge oversight by the company...
