What is the metal stick coming out the vents in the front of the stove?

I can pull it out but I'm not quite sure what it's used for
Asked by: gn
The metal rod near the front vent is used to clean the heat exchange tubes from soot buildup, simply pull the rod out and push back in a few times as recommended and it will keep the exchange tubes clean.

The hopper design is terrible as the pellets constantly get stuck in the hopper. I had to line the hopper with a low friction flashing tape to help. It is very finicky about the type of pellet you can use because of this. This is the start of winter #3 and the auger motor is completely dead. When it works, it out out heat, but it is a very high maintenance unit. Spend more money on a better one with a better warranty.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pellet shoot Love the stove except the pellet shoot needs to come down farther because when they come down they hit the ash pot and bounce resulting in some of the pellets bouncing into the ash pan

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not recommend The hopper design is poor and does not allow the pellets to feed properly.

First, I'd like to say I'm an experienced pellet stove owner, we purchased this unit to replace a 17 yr/old Whitfield pellet stove insert. Overall we're very please with this unit after a month of use in comparison to the unit we replaced which was slightly larger in hopper capacity and convection air volume. The designs are very similar from our old stove compared to this Englander. The quality of construction of this unit is a great value in my opinion. The smaller hopper is more than adequate despite other complaints I've read in reviews. The hopper feeds pellets without issue, very typical design for a pellet stove and functions as expected. If you want to run your hopper to near empty then you may need to push pellets down (typical of pellet stoves, but not recommended). Personally I top off the hopper daily if running a constant burn, it's simple. The convection fan on this unit is scaled to the size of the stove, it's a smaller stove so it moves less air than larger units. The 2,000 sq/ft "rating" is subjective, may only apply to the most efficient rated homes. Our 1970's ranch 1,500 sq/ft house, in a moderate climate, 2 x 4 construction with limited R-value insulation rating manages to heat fine with this stove; but any bigger house or colder climate and this stove wouldn't cut it as our sole source of heat. It's noted in the manual that it's simply a space heater and not recommended for sole source heating of your home, so also keep that in mind. We use it as our primary heat source and it keeps our house cozy, we maintain about a 75 degree household. With proper installation and maintenance I'd expect this stove to last as long as our Whitfield did easily.

I have owned a free standing pellet stove and my parents have had them too, so I am familiar on how they operate. Recently I purchased this pellet stove fireplace insert. WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT!!! I should have believed all these negative reviews. This is what I have encountered with my New insert...when my husband and I got it all set up and turned it on...nothing happened. We discovered a wire had not been plugged in the control board. Simple fix but had to pull whole insert out again to get to control board...next, pellets do not want to fall into auger, they cling to the walls of hopper bin, this means pellets don't get feed into auger, hence no fire. You have to keep them pushed down into the auger feed. But when they do get to the burn pot and burn all day, this clogs up with ash and sits there either putting out the fire or like today...I discovered the burn pot was so full of ash the pellets were sitting on top of an ash clump burning and backing up into the auger trough. I had just cleaned out the whole stove last night so this ash clump had formed over night, and we do use a GOOD Hardwood grade of pellets. When loading the pellets into the hopper bin its a little difficult because the opening is not so big, and it DOES NOT hold 45lbs of pellets, like the ad says it does. I DO NOT RECOMMEND to leave this stove running all day by its self because when you get home the fire is out, due to the pellets staying in the hopper bin, not falling properly. Or the ash clumps in the burn pot makes the fire go out or keeps on putting pellets on top of the ash clump leaving them burning and going back up into the auger trough. This is my experience with this insert and I DO NOT RECOMMEND anyone to purchase it. All I wanted was to keep my upstairs warmer (after our heat pump went out) while we were at work, but this thing needs a babysitter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do Not Buy!! Not worth it at all....spend a few extra $$$$ on another brand Bought this model for 2014-2015 winter season, Year one fine....year 2...started whistling loudly when blower was on..intermittent...front glass started falling out, trim just about fell off. Year 3 season ....(NOW)...pellets come out for 5-10 minutes then stop...auger motor gone...Will never buy this brand again. Going with a Quadrafire this year and not looking back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Save your money I have owned this stove for 4 years now. Every year it has multiple breakdowns. Whether it's a worn door gasket, exhaust blower motor, room blower motor, auger motor, malfunctioning control board. It's always something. Its a guaranteed break down. Problems started right from the beginning with a faulty exhaust blower and auger from the factory. I have another pellet stove from a different manufacturer for 11 years now and I never had to replace a thing on it. If you enjoy working on things instead of heating your house, this is the stove for you. Just don't count on it as a main source of heat. I wish I would have just spent my money on a better quality used pellet stove instead of this.
