Quantum PowerGear 32 in. Bypass Lopper

This Quantum lopper is absolutely amazing, truly a level of quality that must be seen firsthand to fully comprehend. The design is virtually identical to the non-quantum powergear lopper model, which seems to have many more reviews if you would like to read more about the design and functionality. Where the Quantum version differs is in the materials, which are stronger, nicer, and lighter weight. Having frequently used Fiskars tools, I have come to expect great quality and durability, and thus the heavier weight of the more substantial materials. This is where this Quantum lopper tool caught me quite by surprise, as the tool itself is featherlight. It almost feels as if made of cardboard and aluminum foil, yet has not a single ding or scratch after 3 months of extensive use and abuse. The cutting motion takes some getting used to, and you have to realize that the added length of the 32" version over the shorter model gives you increased leverage, but not increased reach. If you can't reach a limb with a shorter lopper, these will not be any better. What they will do is slice through anything that can fit in the 2" blade opening like butter. Trees that I previously spent hours trimming with a saw can be effortlessly trimmed in minutes. The handles are very comfortable to grip for an extended period, and thanks to the light weight I didn't experience the typical soreness after a day of lopping branches. I am not convinced that these are a great value compared to the non-quantum powergear model, but it is clear that they are lighter, more durable, and more comfortable to grip and use. They do come with a lifetime warranty, so at least the benefits of the more expensive Quantum version can be enjoyed for years to come.

I ordered this product to help with tree trimming around the house, and specifically chose the longer 32" model to allow me to reach higher limbs. As it turns out, the lopper is very powerful - it can definitely cut through 2" limbs, as advertised, but it's not quite as convenient or useful as I thought it would be. The issue stems from the powergear design, and it's a flaw I've experienced in other Fiskars products using this design. Due to the ratcheting mechanism, which multiples the force of the cutting arms, the tool requires you to open the arms incredibly wide, making its use on limbs above your head entirely impractical. Just to get a 1" limb within the blades of the lopper, you need to have the arms extended at about an 80 degree angle. To get it around a 2" limb, the tool would have to be opened practically to 180 degrees. That's simply impossible in typical use. It's just too wide, especially if you don't have really long arms, and it effectively eliminates your reach, meaning the branch must be directly in front of you and right about at eye-level. I also question the extra cost associated with this "Made in Finland" product. I have no doubt it's of high quality, and it may in fact outlast the similar Fiskars loppers that cost 1/4 as much, but in my opinion, the cost is simply too high, especially combined with the difficulty of use I experienced.

when it work it works great but I have been thru two of these and twice the nut and bolt that attach the by pass just disappear when cutting a 3/4 "branch

These loppers are great! I have used them this past month to cut an awful lot of 2-3" tree limbs, and they make the job relatively easy. The cork-inlaid handles are comfortable and seem to be fairly rugged, to my surprise. All metal handles should last my lifetime.

well this unit does do the job but is expensive - the other less costly version of this is almost a good -(PowerGear 32 in. Worth the money......very powerful...well made...excellent

Used the product on newly purchased 25 acres, cutting small 1-1.5 inch scrub brush and limbs. The leverage made the task easy. Use for several months and seems to be holding up well.

Replaced 5 year old lopper and couldn't be happier. Cuts through branches with ease.

Strong and efficient. Excellent use of energy. Would recommend these loppers
