Product Overview

FrogTape is the only tape treated with PaintBlock technology, a super-absorbent polymer which reacts with latex paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape, preventing paint bleed. The result is very sharp paint lines. Multi-Surface FrogTape is great for a wide variety of surfaces.

Customer Questions & Answers

Does frogtape work with stain or does it only block paint?

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: Brian
No, it wont. Stain soaks into the wood, it will soak under the tape.

The directions say to remove immediately after painting. What if two coats are needed? I have to tape twice?

Asked by: mike
No, you don't tape twice. With modern paints you can easily apply two coats per day. If you must wait a day, there should be no problem. Frogtape glue is a lot like the glue on those yellow sticky notes. Don't go four or five days.

what to do if any painters tape will not stick
Asked by: makeitstick
That is a tough one. I can't imagine it not sticking unless the surface is greasy/oily. I would use a degreaser cleaner in that case. Otherwise I don't know what to recommend. Sorry.

Can it be used on oil based aluminum paint?

Asked by: Rlo
Thank you for your question, Rio! The FrogTape is designed to be used on and with latex paint. We recommend testing in an inconspicuous area to see how the tape will perform.

While I can't suggest one tape vs another based on results at this time, I felt the need to post this as a suggestion to those that are having problems getting ANY painters tape to stick. 1. Clean the surface that the tape will be used on well before hand with a mix of distilled white vinegar and water. If your surface is really dirty maybe something stronger. 2. If the tape is still not sticking after step one, put the roll of tape in a sealed container (frog tape comes in one) and put a warm wet (not dripping wet) paper towel in the center of the container and seal it and place in a warm sunny place for a little while. this will help tapes that are not sticking most likely as the result of the adhesive being dried up.

Mostly, my usage has been as a barrier for water based, latex paints and oil and water based stains and polyurethanes. This stuff never let me down and I painted and finished for money. I only had one customer complaint, and that occurred when the frog tape adhered to his baseboard trip paint. The fault there was that his prior painter That semi-pro painted without a fine sanding and a TSP washing. Of course his latex paint job released. It simply coated the prior paint, but never really bonded onto the surface. Try Frogtape. It works.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great In the past, Ive used the blue 3M painters tape and this was my first time using the green frog tape. I honestly like the green frog tape better for trimming out a room especially around the baseboards, crown molding and doors. It sticks well and stays where you stick it. Im a bit of a perfectionist so my lines have to be perfect. After painting and removing the green frog tape, I was impressed with the clean lines the tape provided me. I have been converted to a green frog tape fan!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! I bought the frog tape to make a geometric pattern on my daughters wall and it came out perfect! The tape was easy to apply and remove. When you put it on just rub your hand on it to get a good seal and remove the tape before the paint fully dries. I left the tape on until the paint wasn't sticky any more (about and hour). Also don't panic if you see the tape bubble or lift in the middle, the seal in the edge is still intact. Good luck!

I was hesitant because of the difference in price, but it works very well. It should be noted that there are two kinds, one is for "delicate" surfaces. I needed this version for on situation with my black painted metal fireplace surround. Also, if the protected surface is rough, it will be imperfect. It was 100% on smooth and semi smooth surfaces.

Their "patented" Paintblock technology does nothing! The paint still seeped under the tape, even on flat smooth surfaces, such as baseboard molding. Don't waste your time or money on this. I will go back to my regular blue painters tape and caulk all seams. I'm so disappointed in the results; now I have to spend extra time and effort going back to touch up all the edges.
