How to cut to size.

my door is 34" wide and 1-3/4" thick. what is the best tool to cut this aluminum product to size. thanks
Asked by: handygal
Use a hack saw with a metal cutting blade. Use a solid surface like a work bench to cut it on. This works great

from the bottom of the "U" channel, to the bottom of the rubber sweep is how deep. Or, how much gap will the sweep fill in to the threshold ?

About a half inch +/-

Asked by: Mark

E/O 1-3/4 in. x 36 in. Brown U-Shape Door-Bottom Sweep with Drip Cap is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not The Same Item As Pictured Online After eight years, my front door threshold seal was worn and needed to be replaced. After MUCH searching I was able to identify the manufacturer, only to find out that I cannot buy the seal separately. Only the metal drip cap and seal assembly can be purchased. So I would be forced to buy the entire assembly. Not wanting to go to the trouble of replacing the entire drip cap, I thought I would just slide out the old seal and slide in the new. Easy peasy. HOWEVER, the manufacturer had recently changed the design of how the seal slides into the drip cap, so all I could find is the new configuration. After MUCH searching, I finally found the original configuration at HomeDepot.com! The picture matched perfectly! So I ordered the product, and when it arrived...the new configuration... I had to end up changing out the entire drip cap after all. Very aggravating to purchase an item as pictured, and then receive a "similar" item.

The picture is a bit inaccurate in that the rubber sweep is not as wide as shown in the pic. No big deal. It still works great. It was super easy to install also. Just have a good hack saw on hand if you need to cut the length shorter. One of the main reasons I bought 2 of these is the rain drip edge....essential during our sub-tropical downpours in Houston, TX. The brown color wasn't available in the HD stores so I purchased online.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not as pictured Delivery was prompt and price was fair. However...the product delivered is not the same as the one shown. The display photo shows a sweep that extends the full width of the 1-3/4 inch frame. In fact, the sweep is only about half as wide as what is shown. It's design is similar, but its attachment points are fully 1/2 in from the outer edges, making the sweep seal surface only about 3/4" wide. The consruction is a good quality aluminum, and the vinyl seal is softer than most and should seal OK. Disappointed that it's not as shown, but it's still the best design and construction that I could find. No explanation was given about a substitute.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Better to follow the existing standard. While I have yet to buy this door shoe, the one shown in the picture is not the exact same as what i've been using for the last 40 years. But the one pictured in the above review is. So be sure and spend the entire $15 and get shoe with the rubber included.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as advertised, but be aware ... The drip cap, which is a good feature, requires some finesse. Since it is full length, the door won't close until the drip shield is trimmed. The instructions suggest doing something stupid - cutting the entire unit down to provide the clearance. Instead, just mark the drip cap itself. snip it with shears or even scissors, finish with a coping saw or hack saw to get a full notch. Grab each end piece with pliers and flex it a few times and it will snap off. Leaving you with a full width sweep that will let the door close. If the door is less than the standard 36" then the sweep itself will have to be cut down before you deal with the drip cap.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Picture is different I agree with the first reviewer in that the product I received is not what is pictured. I ordered this door sweep just for the vinyl seal on the bottom as I needed a refill for my existing door sweep and could not find one that would hook into my existing sweep in any stores and also could not find this design just as a refill without the sweep. The vinyl seal in this picture would have fit perfectly; however the one that came with the sweep does not have the same design and hooks in differently than the one in the picture. I think the sweep works fine but just know that it isn’t exactly what is in the picture.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Useful for repairing an old door A good replacement on a door that was beginning to rot. It keeps the door skins together but I had to buy longer screws (stainless steel) to keep it in place. It was a tight fit with the current threshold which caused the seal to be slid out while closing. i had to add a screw and washer through the seal to keep it from moving. The current product picture is wrong. The seal strip is only about half the width of the frame.
