Customer Questions & Answers

Is this just the film, if not what do I buy to get it to stick?

Asked by: Anonymous
It comes with the double sided tape, you don't need anything else other than a pair of scissors and a tape measure

Is it safe to put on a room window?

What if I want to turn on a portable heater in the room will it be safe?
Asked by: Liz
Definitely safe for windows. If the window frame has very old paint, it may peel however.

How easy is it to remove the installation at the end of a season? Does it damage surfaces?
Asked by: BirdWatcher
The tape will damage surfaces with older paint if you're not careful. Test this by peeling the tape from the least-visible part of your windows, and do so very slowly. This only happens when the paint is very old. If it starts peeling paint from the window frame, maybe that's a sign it's time to repaint in the spring anyway.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst tape adhesion!!! I followed the package directions, which is to press firmly and wait 15 full minutes to make sure tape sticks (that should have been a giant red flag-it won't) Grrrr. I have been shrink filming my windows for years . I usually just get a large window kit and cut the film to size for each window. I usually use Duck brand, but this year I tried Frost King. What normally only takes me 20 min. a window is now taking me 40 min plus headaches. Also, now I get to REDO the windows because either the adhesive tape wasn't tacky enough to stick in the first place or came up when I was shrinking the film. I just LOVE having to REDO my work because of poor product! I tried a window a second time with Frost King, only because I had enough of the product and it happened again....poor tape adhesion. DO NOT waste your money on this product!

The double sided tape provided wouldn't stick to the window frame. The frame was clean, dry and smooth. I even attempted to apply the tape directly to the vinyl frame of the window itself with no luck. I don't understand how this product is still sold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Preparation is the key. Just like most projects. Sad to say that the contractor grade windows in my otherwise custom house are lousy. This winter I decided to put up window film on bedroom windows that face north. I thoroughly cleaned the windows, then wiped the vinyl frames with 90% Isopropyl Alcohol. Because of the poor reviews, I was concerned about the tape that came with this kit. Let me say that, it worked perfectly for me. I will admit that getting the backing off of the tape without peeling the tape from the frame, was a real P.I.T.A. but I found that carefully starting an edge with a razor knife did the trick (still not easy though). Once the film was tacked down (the film adhered to the tape very well, I don't understand how others had trouble with it, unless the manufacturer recently improved the tape), a simple blow dryer was used to shrink the film up nice and tight. As far as energy savings go, this product is probably a break even expense at best, but it will make those bedrooms much more comfortable this winter, so I consider it a good investment.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from You have got to be kidding I have never written a product review in my life, but this one truly inspires me (for lack of a profane term). This is a great idea, but is impossible to install. You know what would be a great idea...double stick tape that actually sticks to something. The window film will not stick to the tape!!!! I could understand if it didn't stick to the window frame because I had some strange coating or something, but why doesn't the tape stick to the film it came with? This product is impossible.

I bought this for a large picture frame window to help insulate since it gets cold in Northern Michigan. This was an epic fail. Don't waste your money. The plastic is cheap and rips once you get it tight. The two sided tape doesn't stick well. And if you want it to look nice, well, it's not going to, ever, period. Might look slightly nicer than using garbage bags, but not much. When I finally got it up and went to trim the edges, it just split right down the middle. So, you are better off taping a 5 and 10 dollar bill to the window as at least you can get your money back then. I don't recommend. #Idontlikegettingrippedoff

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Installation went smooth for me. Noticeable difference already. This product has received some unavoidable reviews and I'm a bit surprised. I followed the instructions and have had a great outcome so far. I knew the five windows that I covered were allowing cold air to enter and after applying the plastic shrink wrap over them I could instantly feel the difference. The tape holds well and you can see the plastic shrink/tighten as you pass over it with the hair dryer. In a few spots I doubled the amount of tape used to give a 1" width just to give additional adhesion for holding the plastic in place. I'd recommend this product.

I've been using this product for several years, does what it's meant to do, keep out the cold and keep in the heat. The only thing Frost King needs to do to improve this product is make it CAT proof!!!!!!!
