Why doesn't the timer program work?

This question is from 7 Day Digital Outdoor Box Timer and On/Off Per Day
Asked by
Lana
December 4, 2012
The timer is installed by a professional electrician. It was in the manual mode initially, working fine. We turned the big red switch from "ON" (bottom) to "TIMER" (top), programmed the date/time (to turn on in the next 5 minutes, just as a test) and made sure "A" is displayed, which indicates that the timer is in control. The timer did not turn on at the programmed time. What else should we try? Thank you!

I found this timer to be too complicated for most applications; the programming sequence was complicated, used tiny buttons, and easy to "fat-finger". Programs are also "layered" - one program can override another one - you have to make sure they're not overlapping, and/or "nulled-out", as appropriate. Read Less

Your timer can be programmed to turn on at different times and for different days of the week. When testing make sure your timer event is scheduled to start every day at the correct am/pm or for the weekday & am/pm time + 5 minutes that you are trying to test for.

There is a button to set hours and a button to set minutes for both on and off times. Minimum time on or off is one minute. Mine died after three months, so you may want to give the purchase additional consideration. If it worked it would be a great timer, but it is at best unreliable.

Hello Gallie,
Thank you for your question .
I did reach out to the manufacturer on this and below is their response.
The GE 15136 is a digital timing unit and allows “to the minute” programming. This means you can set it specifically to turn on at any time and also off at whatever time you would like, as little as one minute later.
Hope this helps.

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 55 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great timer This timer was installed about a month ago for a new pool install. The timer works great and has performed exactly as expected. The only annoyance is with the programing of the timer. It is not intuitive. I needed to read and reread the instructions before I was able to successfully get it to do what I wanted it to. I usually figure these things out without the directions, but this time not so lucky. Now that I know how to do it it has been easy to add new start stop times etc. I would recommend this if you need a timer for your electrical application. August 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great timer and good value I'm a do-it-yourself kind of guy and this product was perfect for my needs. I purchased this unit to replace a malfunctioning timer for outdoor lighting. Installation was simple and straightforward. The only issue I had was with the instructions for setting the digital timer not being easy to understand. I had to find a video online that explained the timer setup. Once I viewed the video, setup was a breeze. I highly recommend this product to anyone interested in quality, value and ease of installation/use. July 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PERFECT REPLACEMENT Had to replace the pool timer and this was an easy reasonable replacement! August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product for the price I bought this for a 1HP pool pump. The gasket keeps the water out, the unit can handle more than 15 amps and the price was less than those standard hot water heater timers. Timer function was pretty easy to program, it had a toggle switch override and there were many different wiring options. I am not an electrician, but the wiring diections were very clear. The power bar where you attach the wires was connected directly to a circuit board which flexed a little so be careful not to tweak or break anything. I wish it was made in USA, but it was made in China as usual. Hopefully it lasts quite a few seasons, haven't decided if I will take it in for the winter. It gets cold up here and not sure if it will shorten its life span. June 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed Used on a 2hp pool pump, Stopped working after 5weeks July 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Solid and good product, especially for the price I was shopping to replace an older mechanical timer on the pool motor. I didn't like the old dial system, so I wanted a digital one that was easy to program and had multiple on/off programming capabilities. Other digital timers were $100+ and I was going to settle for another like my old one, when I saw this product. Since a hanging box was already in place, I was able to take it off and install this one in a about an hour. Wiring and jumper settings need to be right, but I'm not an electrician and I figured it out. Now my pool motor runs twice a day for different time intervals. Great product. If you have an old dial timer that needs replacing, you've found the solution. May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Unit, Great Price!!! The Specs were lacking it can have up to 8 different events an each event could be for any combination of days. June 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Quality This unit failed after less than a year of operation, the relays stopped working. This seems to be a poorly designed / built product and I would not recommend it. June 16, 2016
