Customer Questions & Answers

Are the wire connections close. I am replacind an old one and the wires are side-by-side and very short

I am replacing an old one. The wires are side by side and very short. 1/2 inch is too far apart
Asked by: frustrated
The screw terminals for the wires are close together. The entire base body is a little under 1 inch wide and center-to-center on the screw terminals is approx 3/8 inch.

It is an easy, standard, two-wire install and it looks fine. Now, the bad.... When it gets colder (say below 30 degrees F), there is, apparently, a differential contraction between the body and the "button part" (white thing you push) and it makes the BUTTON STICK DOWN when someone rings your door. The button sticking down is bad because it keeps the transformer secondary and door chime energized continually which represents an overheating and fire hazard in your house. So if someone rings your doorbell on a cold day when you are not home...... I finally removed the thing. Too worrisome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Door bell switch (brushed nickel finish) Simple connection, brushed nickel (plastic) looks and works well. Improvements: rubber gaskets for water-proofing, metal instead of plastic. It might add some to the cost but it "is" exposed to the elements
