Customer Questions & Answers

what is the range of this remote control

I have a outside light on a building 150 feet away I would like to be able to operate from my house.
Asked by: Anonymous
Hi Felix, Thank you for your question. I did reach out to the manufacturer on this question and here is their response. "Under ideal conditions, the maximum range of the GE 45600 Basic Z-Wave remote directly to a Z-Wave enabled device is 65 feet. The strength of Z-Wave home automation products are their ability to relay signals through other Z-Wave enabled devices inside the home, should one be out of range from the remote. Unfortunately due to the range, but also because RF transmissions can experience 25-30% signal loss travelling through the exterior of a home, it may make finding a wireless solution difficult.". Hope this information helps.

I have a constant hot wire on a lighting fixture that is turned on and off by a pull chain. The fixture I want to put in has no pull chain.

Is there any suggestions to this problem?

Hi Problem_Maker I’m BlakeTheDiyGuy from Home Depot’s How- To Community. Since you said there is a constant hot wire going to the fixture, I am going to assume that it is a ceiling or wall mounted, direct-wire fixture. If so, the best solution would be to wire in a hardwired switch into the wall, so that the light can be turned on and off. If for some reason this is not an option, you could buy a standalone pull-chain switch, and retrofit it onto your new light by drilling the correct size hole in the fixture and fastening it in place with a locknut. If you have any questions on how to do either of these projects please visit our how-to community at Http:// we are here to help. -Blake

Z-Wave Basic Handheld Remote-DISCONTINUED is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Range is very limited. Does not work reliably with obstructions. Range is very limited. Does not seem to meet specifications of product literature. Other products available which work better at a fraction of the cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from this was a great product but was unable to keep it as I was not connected to the "z-wave" throughout the house made me wish I could afford to be connected to z wave!
