how is this applied to the window

Asked by: rose
It's rather easy... After cleaning the window, you'll spray the window with an applicator solution and apply the film. Then smooth out any bubbles (a squeegee and credit card are very helpful). Have a towel handy to absorb the water as you squeeze it out from underneath the film and window.

does this product also block the heat from exiting you house when the heat is on?

This product looks like it would work great in the summer months by keeping the heat out, but will it also work in the winter by keeping the heat from exiting my home thru the windows?
Asked by: Callahan
I have found the Light Film blocks about 35% of the heat and my electric bill attests to it. We get lots of sunshine in the Hill Country of Texas.

36 in. x 1200 in. Heat Control Light Window Film is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 86.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from does the job well I've used both this product and the titanium heat blocking film. They both work well. I would use this one in the future since it costs less. Installing the film is straightforward but you have to be meticulous in cleaning the window. Make sure to clean with a good ammonia based cleaner and then with a solution of a quart of water and a half cap of baby shampoo. Use this solution to wet the window and the film when you install (no need to buy special made solution).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heat control Light window film Easy to put up if you use plenty of spray. Helps prevent view of inside the house from the outside, electric bill has gone down on cooling. I recommend this product for any window, mine are double pane and you can FEEL the difference.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It works After reading the mixed reviews before purchasing this tint I decided to go ahead and try it. I have tinted at least 10 different automotive windows and several home windows and this tint is very user friendly and easy to work with. I managed to do both my slider door windows by myself. There is a 8 degree difference from the untinted windows, so it does in fact reduce the heat energy transmitted. Like other people have said it does have a mirror like finish when there are lights on inside and trying to look out at night. It also does have a slight blueish look to the light that is transmitted through it. As long as this product does not fade or wash out I will be happy with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall a good product and would use it again. After reviewing the specs for the various Gila window films on the Gila website, I purchased the "light" window as it allows the most visible light through and I didn't want the windows to be too dark. The film application was straight forward with two people. The Gila video on Youtube is quite good. I purchased the application kit which was worthwhile. I ran out of the application spray and made my own (per the video) using water and baby shampoo and used the spray bottle. Be sure to buy a wide window cleaning razor tool (available at HD) to pre-clean / scrape the windows after wetting them using the solution. I also bought a package of Dickies lint-free reusable / washable wipes which were great for cleaning the windows and wiping them dry after the film application. After the windows cured for a day or two they look great, and the heat transfer reduction is noticeable. After the film has been applied and cured for a few hours, It's helpful to have someone outside to point out the air and water bubbles to squeegee out as they're more noticeable from outside. I would definitely use this window film again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Be patient and you will be rewarded! I had read other reviews on this product and was a little worried. Many either hated it because they couldn't install it and others who loved it said be very patient. This film is not hard to install, it is just tedious. You have to measure the window, measure the film, cut the film....then spray, spray, spray!!!! Make sure you have several bottles of the spray - you are going to need it! Also, make sure you have a sharp blade to cut the film with. My husband and I put the film on only three of the eight windows in our bedroom (it is always SOOOO HOT) and it was cool, if not cooler than other rooms in the house where we had not installed the film. We will be doing two more of the windows and I'm sure it will work even better! This is good stuff and can do what its supposed to...just take it slow, watch the online videos, and enjoy it after you're done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 36 in. x 180 in. Heat Control Light Window Film I purchased this film after reading the reviews I have 6 windows that faces South all day and heats up the one room a lot. I have done this job myself and the first piece was difficult ( it is better if you have 2 or 3 people 1 person holding the film another removing the clear layer and the other spraying while the clear layer is being removed) My windows were not that big 28 X 33 once it is on 80% is done spray the outside of the film and squeegee the solution you sprayed on the film when you removed the clear layer. IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A MIRROR OUTSIDE THE HOUSE, it has a slight tint and it does keep the room cooler. I love it once it is done I was able to do all 6 windows with this roll and have a small piece left to do a small octagon window in the front of the house also
