Motor seems to be freezing up. I have to go over and smack the top to get it running. Whats up?

Josh, This sounds like a bad connection somewhere in the unit. I would suggest giving the tech group a call at 844 241 9499 to discuss your situation and resolve. Thank you, Graco Technical Service Group

can the tip 0.015 be replaced With a 0.017 tip

manual has no indication saying the tip size can be changed out for larger tip size.
Asked by: eddy
Eddy, The Magnum X5 can only support up to a .015 tip. It would not properly support a larger tip like a .017 tip. Thank you, Graco Technical Support Team

Can I spray Lacquer with the graco X5

Asked by: painter
Yes you can spray Lacquer with this pump BUT... Make sure all your prep is done prior to loading lacquer in pump. Lacquer dries QUICKLY flush out pump with lacquer thinner immediately and then flush with paint thinner or mineral spirits DO NOT leave lacquer thinner in pump. I would also recommend using a "Fine Finish" spray tip when spraying lacquer. Hope this helps.

While waiting for paint to dry, what do I do with the sprayer?

Can I leave it on with paint in the hose, pressure on? It could be several hours. Or should I be using the short term storage method each time?
Asked by: Hsmith
Hello Hsmith, The recommended method for short term storage is to relieve the system pressure, leave the suction tube and drain tube in the paint pail, cover the pail and tubes tightly with plastic wrap. Engage the trigger lock on the spray gun. Remove the spray tip and guard and clean them. Wipe any paint from the spray gun. is this model auto volt? can use 220 voltage?

Asked by: Anonymous
I don't have it anymore but I don't believe it is 240v AC compatable. If you are thinking of using it in another country, the electricity there may be at 50hz not 60hz like in the USA and that would be another reason why it may not work well or at all.

Cleanup: What is the effort?

How much effort is needed to clean the sprayer after each use? Some sprayer's I've used can be thoroughly cleaned in 5 minutes. Other sprayers need at least 30 minutes to soak, scrub, and then dry overnight. Also, can unused paint in the hose be drained back into the can, or is this lost?
Asked by: GrumpyGrandpa
Hello GrumpyGrandpa, Thank you for your question. To clean your Magnum sprayer, you wipe the paint off of the suction tube remove the strainer and connect a garden hose. Set the prime valve in the prime condition (pointing down). You also remove the spray tip from the gun. Now turn the water on and turn the sprayer on and run for 30-60 seconds. After running with the prime valve open, close the prime valve (pointing forward) and pull the trigger on the gun and spray the water through the gun until clean. After you have cleaned the sprayer we recommend that you use a storage fluid such as Pump Armor. If you have further questions please call Graco Technical Assistance 1-844-241-9499

will the graco 5 paint dryloc masonary paint
Asked by: Anonymous
The Graco X5 is not designed to spray Dryloc masonry paint. This coating is very viscous and requires a more robust sprayer to achieve proper coverage.Dryloc suggests using the Graco TexFinish 1500 with a fine finish kit.

I used it to spray approximately 650 linear feet of cedar fencing that was six feet tall which I recently power washed. I applied a Behr weatherproofing cedar stain. I was initially dreading the work, but with this unit it was a whole lot easier than I expected. I did purchase a slightly small tip (413 instead of the supplied 515). For my job, I sprayed 20 gallons of the Behr product over a two day period. Using the supplied instructions, the application and daily cleanup was not a problem.

I'm a DIY'er - Just updated my list of my "5 favorite tools" to include this paint sprayer. Took a little getting used to, and have to admit being a little intimidated looking at the various parts and instructions, but after an hour of use (setup, use, cleanup) got the hang of it, and painted the exterior of a home this weekend. Feeling pretty accomplished and looking forward to the next project!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cuts hours off a painting project...if you use it right I needed to paint the vinyl siding on my house. Badly. Considering it would have cost more than $1,000 to have somebody do it, I gave it a shot. Went with this sprayer instead of a cheaper one, and it was well worth the price. It's very, very important to read the instructions and follow them closely. And, it's very important to make sure everything is tightened before your first spray. I failed to tighten the nut in the sprayer handle and found out quickly that wasn't a good thing to forget, as I took a shot of paint in the face. Also, the sprayer hose is fairly stiff and needs to be laid out before painting to prevent the unit and/or paint container from tipping over. I did have a little trouble maintaining pump prime after I switched to a second paint bucket. That can cause some "burping" of paint. So, when you start to feel the pump losing pressure, stop and re-prime. Also, it pays to hesitate and take your time when painting in tight areas. Clean-up took some time, but using 2 5-gallon buckets helped a lot. I have yet to put the pump fluid into the unit because I may use it again before winter, but it sounds like that is a must, too. So, all in all, if you can follow directions precisely, you should be in good shape. This is not a $1,200 professional sprayer, but it's also not a $40 plastic Wagner sprayer. It's much closer to the former than the latter. I was extremely pleased with my results. Was able to paint my small ranch house in just under 4 hours (not counting trim work and touch-ups, which took just as long!). I recommend this sprayer if you are willing and able to take your time, be patient and do the job right.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from X5 Airless Paint Strayer - Time Saving, Well Worth it Bought this paint sprayer as we are repainting the exterior of our house. We had already painted the front, took 2 weekends with brushes and 3 coats of paint. Decided to bite the bullet and spend the money on a sprayer. The X5 was the model we chose, and after set up, we painted the entire side of the house in less than 30 minutes. Coverage was complete with 1 coat, very easy to use and a lot of fun! Clean up took longer that the actual painting. Set up and clean up take some time, but once you read that manual carefully and get to know the steps involved, it will become routine and take much less time for the set up when we paint again. Highly recommend this product.

It is set up for easy cleaning, but be sure to cover anything around it when you do. I does get messy. REALLY messy. I did get some spotting when the trigger is first pulled. So if you spray back and forth letting off the trigger, you will occasionally get a blob of paint spit out vs. continuous even spraying. I ended up starting the spray before hitting the item being painted to avoid the "blobs". I haven't messed with the controls too much so I may be able to remedy that problem. I also had LOTS of overspray. Adjustments or product? I'll find out next time I use it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WHOA! Bought this for a whole house rehab that I am doing. Its great. It uses a lot more paint than a roller would but for the hours and hours saved it is worth it. Primed drywall walls and ceiling and put white on ceiling and a color on walls. Also little to no brush work. Which I hate doing, so that is a plus. Would not recommend if your house is finished already, carpet and appliances and whatnot. There is a good amount of over-spray. Do NOT use without respirator and clothes to throw away or tyvek suit. Had already painted the trim by brush so I did not get to spray it but will next time. I bought a smaller tip size cause I am about to do 13 doors. We'll see how that goes.
