Why does HPN14XHM say 500 sqft and HPN14XCM say 600? They appear to have identical specs otherwise. Also, why is XCM rated 54 dBA and XHM rated 49?

This question is from 14,000 BTU Cool and Heat Portable Air Conditioner with 110 Pints per Day Moisture Removal in Dehumidification Mode

These models appear to be identical in provided specs with the main difference being that one is heat and cool, and the other is cool only. Why is one rated for higher square footage and higher dBA, and the other rated for lower square footage and lower dBA? The only other thing different is 1.5 lbs in weight, which doesn't really matter.

Answer:
The addition of the reversing valve for heating is the reason for the specifications change. the reversing valve slightly reduces efficiency in cooling mode

Thank you for your questions! The HPN14XCM only cools the room. The HPN14XHM cools and heats the room. Due to this design, there is less BTU in this unit so it cools 100 square feet less. Also, the HPN14XCM has a louder dBA rating because the fan settings are different as this unit ONLY cools. Hope this helps clarify. If you need additional information, please let us know. I go this A/C and the temperature does not change when is in cool mode. The LCD indicates 29°C, I press the arrows, on the control panel, down to 16 but after stoping oscillating the number, it continues showing 29°C. I am doing something wrong or this thing is broken?

The set temperature only shows on the display for a moment after adjustment. This is normal operation, after adjusting the temperature the display reverts to the temperature value in the room. While you are pressing the temperature adjustment buttons the set temperature will change. If you continue to have problems please contact Haier America at 1-877-337-3639 or visit Read More

14,000 BTU Cool and Heat Portable Air Conditioner with 110 pt. per Day Moisture Removal in Dehumidification Mode is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 180.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do Not purchase The reason I rated this poor is because the machine leaks water. We even put a tubing in to drain it so it would not get on the floor. The water would not drain through the tubing. Then we had to fill out our warranty to get someone to service it. The person came over in a timely manner but was unsuccessful. They did not even recommend anything. Just live with it. I would not buy this product or anything from this vendor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product Works as advertised. Compressor cycling on and off is very unobtrusive. Fan noise moderately high. Was very awkward to move upstairs to second floor since unit is very bulky and indentations on sides for gripping are much too small, low, and far back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Electrical Demand Product seems well made and performs as expected. The only downside is that under high heat conditions, it trips the GFI circuit (15 amp). The manual does say it should be the only item on a circuit.

If you need this item as a heater, do not waste your time; my wife's blower produces 10 times more heat (believe me) and the room I bought this for is 130 sq. ft aprox.!! Also, I don't understand how this people can still sell this unit that is noisy beyond words!! The service from H.D wasn't really good either; I had to order this twice b/c first time they sent a drawer chest instead!! The 1800 line doesn't even have a choice for complaints so you will feel the pain and that is just the starting point of the journey. In fairness they gave me 15% discount in the second unit but after trying form 2 or 3 days I just returned it

I have an added room on the back of our house this room started out as a sun room. but was finished to be an addition. My wife spends most of her time in this room, there was no heat or air in there. Had a smaller unit of the same manufacturer which worked pretty well until it got really cold, and after 3 or 4 years the heating side quit working. When I decided to buy a another I went with this bigger unit and so far it does the job of keeping the room well heated even though temps recently have been in the single digits. Don't know yet of the A/C but the smaller unit worked well and I expect the larger unit will work as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good buy. I ordered two of these heat/air units and before I received them, I had two outlets put into my home just for them. They work good, but I was hoping they would keep my house cooler than they do, but I am very hot natured and was hoping they would keep my home about 68-70 degree during the 100 degree summer weather, and that just didn't happen. I had window units in each of my two bedrooms and it was a good thing I did. I haven't used them as heaters yet, I'm hoping they will heat better than they cool. But all in all, I am happy with them. They are well built and seem high quality to me as far as the way they are built and they are sturdy and attractive as well.

However, it is nearly impossible to drain water from the lower valve unless you drill a hole in your floor or wall or place the unit on a stand. This is a big flaw in the design so I cannot recommend it unless you willing to have a drain hole with a tube in your floor or wall. Because of this It didn't meet our expectations. The store salesman highly recommended this unit and told us we would have to drain the water every 2-3 days but failed to mention how difficult it would be. The set up guidelines lack any information on how to drain the water from the valves.
