I would like to make a few cabinets different colors for accent, so I need to know if they are paintable. If so, how would you recommend to paint them with this surface?

No, you would be better starting with a wood product instead of this surface.

I would need to know what the existing cabinet finish is. Also specifically for cabinets where durability...as well as an appropriately "furniture-grade" finish is a prime consideration, a sprayed finish will most likely be the right choice, and not a latex product. If the cabinets are wood, with a painted or stained finish, they most likely can be prepped (light to moderate scuffing or sanding, and then cleaning) and painted with an oil-based paint or a lacquer if you know what you're doing. ..or a urethane if you're a pro. Otherwise you *could* use a latex semigloss for a more "rough/country" kind of finish.
If the cabinets are a laminate, you will have more difficulty getting a proper paint bond, and the prep itself becomes more difficult. It can be done, but it's no easy task. Read Less

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in our products. Our Satin White finish is actually a Rigid Thermofoil (RTF) process which means that the cabinets are sealed with a white colored vinyl material. We would not suggest painting over the vinyl as this would likely peel over time. Best wishes with your project.

Answer:
No. Sink base cabinets have a "faux" drawer front attached so they look the same as adjacent cabinets that DO have a top drawer. The drawer front can usually be hinged though to provide 'tip-out" space for small items...sponges, scrub pads etc.

Answer:
Since cabinet widths are given in the actual dimension, as opposed to a "nominal dimension", a 36" cabinet would need a 36" toe kick. Toe kick material can be anything from vinyl cove molding to "melamine" (anywhere from 1/4" to 3/4" thick. Basically, anything that will cover the toekick and any shims that may have been installed to level the cabinet, to give it a finished appearance.

Answer:
Cabinets and counter tops are sold separately. The cutout for the sink is done by the installer in most cases...but also can be done by the fabricator if it isn't the same person.

Answer:
Unfortunately we do not offer a 48" long cabinet in our Hampton Bay program that includes a countertop. However, you could combine two smaller cabinets together to customize your own 48" configuration. There are also a variety of countertop options available both online as well as in your local Home Depot store.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.1 out of 5 by 34 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very Poor Build Quality We had to partially disassemble and correctly re-assemble the cabinet because a number of cross pieces had been fastened at 60 degrees instead of 90. Others were not well joined; but we left them alone because they were close enough. Still none of it was very satisfactory. If I had it to do over again, I would spend a little more for better quality. I'm going to add some extra bracing and reinforcement, to some points; but I would not be surprised if this was trashed in about 5 or so years. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good service Very happy customer my kitchen is looking awesome and it's all thanks to Home Depot August 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by You get what you pay for, took several mailings to receive better quality I bought these cabinets for my kitchen remodel. I knew I was buying low budget cabinets but didn't realize I was buying poor and not well made cabinets. I still have the old Mills Pride Cabinets in my upstairs apartment that are 25 years old and still work well. When I finally unboxed the cabinets and really inspected them most of the doors were damaged and chipped. The fronts were exposed and were filthy.Home Depot told me to call the manufacturer and they will send out replacements. Most of my cabinets were special order to fit in my 130 year old kitchen. To make a long story short it took 3 tries to get new doors that were not chipped or not well made. Each time the manufacturer would send me doors with chips in the finish or defects in the finish that were very obvious. On the last one that I finally put up when I went to adjust the screw to straighten out the door the screw was stripped and that was the last time I has to email them and ask for the last parts. The cabinets are made form pressed wood and do not lean them to one side because you will rolls over the edges, The doors from what I understand are moulded and then faced with the finish. I have to admit though that once they were finally up they look very classic and nice. Had I known that it would take me as long as it did to get replacement doors and had I known the quality would have been so bad I would have not purchased these cabinets. The designer at my local Home Depot told me I could have spent double the amount and bought a better set of cabinets from another manufacturer. March 27, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Complet Garbage I ordered 16 cabinets and 8 of them showed up with something wrong with them. 2 of them were able to be fixed, even tho I should not have had too. The other six are a pile of scrap wood. Drawers not even attached to the cabinets, back of drawers snapped in half. Screws sticking out of the face of the cabinet ruining the finish. A lot of the corner were broke. Staples not in the whole away the backs were coming off of them. I will never even consider using these again. I bought these on sale a couple months before I needed them and left them in the packages, so home depot would not do anything to help. Buyers beware these are garbage!!!!! June 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Cabinet This is a very nice cabinet, especially for under $150.00. No assembly required and seems to be very solid. I would buy it again. Installed in our garage which is where our washer and dryer are located. Wanted this so that we had a place for folding and stacking clothes. I installed a 48" ready-made counter top and let it hang over on the one end. Having the additional storage is a bonus. February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice cabinets I really like this cabinet. It has more room then my last cabinet June 14, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to Clean! This is a nice cabinet if you aren't too picky about the cabinet doors not fitting snug together once you close them. The adjustment doesn't allow you to adjust the cabinets... so there is a half inch open gap between the two cabinet doors in the center of the cabinet. I put this cabinet into a dressing area of a bathroom and you don't look at it right on like a kitchen sink so it works for me. It would have bothered me if it was in my kitchen seeing the gap. Other than that the cabinet works fine and is easy to clean. I'm using this cabinet in the bath room for a higher counter space since everyone is tall in our household. February 23, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Small Flaws Products are good value but make sure you examine the packing REAL CLOSE. I thought I had. I was mostly looking at the corners for damage but I missed a very small flaw. See photos. There were two small holes in the packaging. Not sure how they got there. They punched though the cabinets as shown in second picture. I when ahead and used the cabinet as it was for out in my shop area. If it had been in my house I would have taken it back to the store. You will also need to install 1/2 plywood or blocks to get a counter mounted on top of the cabinets or you drawers will not open. Overall the project is moving along well. Just waiting for the sink to be shipped to finish it. January 11, 2015
