I ordered two of these bookshelves, and they are perfect for my needs. They hold everything with no problem, no sagging shelves, even with an entire row of hardcover books on them.
The only reason they do not get 5 stars is the backing. The backing is a thin, cheap material held together by tape. The tape ripped, making the backing difficult to install. But, once books are on the shelves, you really can't see it unless you look closely.

I read most of the comments before purchasing, and found many of them to be informative. I knew what to expect. The shelves came in boxes that weren't in the best shape. The contents, however, were all there. They were very easy to assemble. The back of the shelf was flimsy, but I just taped them together. No big deal. The only glitch was that I couldn't buy two more.

Easy to assemble but the back cover is flimsy and can be broken. Be careful when attaching the back.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Barb Good for someone that can improvise!!!
It's a good thing that I'm a handy person and can fix things myself. I ordered two of these shelves. They looked nice and sturdy. When they were delivered one box had some damaged to it but everything was intact. The other box had huge holes on it and the parts were not only moving inside of it but falling out of the box as well. Long story short. Three of the long bars that go on front of it were missing. The company that makes these shelves did NOT replaced the items missing. I didn't want to returned them cause I really liked them so I went and bought four wood bars which I glued on to the shelf and painted them with a similar color and they look amazing!!!! I actually went to Home Depot and had someone mix a can of paint to match this color. And I also painted all the decorative front bars to match it all around. Also the back panels were all falling apart cause the tape use to hold them together are very cheap and break apart easily. So I put duct tape on the back of the panels and painted them as well to match. I'm really proud of what I was able to do and they look great. But non the less I'm just very disappointed by the way this was handled from the factory to the delivery. Very poor service. Customer service was great and price was reduced to almost nothing so at the end of the day I can deal with it. I

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Betelgeuse38 The "not for books" bookcase!
I wanted a nice-looking, solid bookcase, specifically for the storage and display of books. This bookcase arrives in a very heavy, but surprisingly small box. There's lots of superfluous, hard-to-recycle styrofoam package filler. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, and everything fit together nicely. This is actually a 2-shelf and a 3-shelf bookcase stacked atop each other. The product is almost exclusively processed wood material covered in a plastic veneer. The sides and shelves are closer to 1/2" though the edging makes it seem thicker. The base is only 3-sided and gives the structure a wobbly feel. I added a 2x4 brace. The edging on the shelves and sides provides a lip that shrinks shelf capacity and makes removal of books at either end complicated. The thin shelves immediately sagged under the weight of a full row of books. It looks nice, but it's not for books.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by goombah Satisfied, with one undesirable feature
Relatively easy to assemble using easy to read non-verbal instructions,. Hardware parts package is excellent including extras. Veneer finish is handsome. The one undesirable feature is the backing supplied. The two back pieces provided are inadequate and did not fit properly. The piece is essentially a two part project - base and upper. The hardware fasteners are well engineered and easy to install. To insure upper and lower stability a solid one piece back must be substituted for the pieces provided. The unit can be assembled in about two hours, not counting the trip to buy a better hardwood backing. Overall, I am generally satisfied and am considering the purchase of a second bookcase.
