Do these have built in timers or something? I turn them on, an hour later, they are off.... and are fully charged.... I dont get it.
Asked by: Starzfan
Actually they are in the sun all day... and they typically screw up when it is cold outside. If I walk up and tap one that is off, it comes on. Must be cheap connections in the units themselves.

I had the lights switched off and then realized that I hadn't turned them on. When I turned them on, they don't work.

Do I need to have them in "on" mode during the day for them to work properly at night?
Asked by: Mm
yes why would you turn them off ay all, they dont light up in the daytime anyway

Have had a set for about 7 months and they have performed amazingly and are look great, given I paid less than $5 per light. Just the right amount of light and last well into the night. Be advised they have a light detector (so they don't run in the day) so if you install too close to a porch light or your car headlights are on them, they will go out (will re-illuminate when headlights are off). Not an issue but may affect desired placement... especially if you have a bright porch light. Like all solar panels, they work better when clean, so if they get dirty, remember to wipe off the top! Planning on buying another set this spring.. recommended!

These have a sliding switch for on and off that will not keep making contact when exposed to weather. I have 18 of these around a backyard fence and less than half of them are working after a month or so. I have tried spray oil, hot gluing the switch, etc. So my advise is to not waste your time or money. If you do and want to put in the ground, drive a metal rod of some sort in the ground first so you wont break them. They are made out of weak plastic.

DONT put these lights anyplace close to traffic. The Plastic is so brittle they snap if you look at them wrong. 2. DONT attempt to sink the spike with the bottom attached, I paid more for all the Gorilla glue, than I did for the lights. 3. DONT put these lights where they can get wet, if they do. Go outside and dry them off or the filament get a white haz on it and they wont charge.

The instruction manual (sheet of paper) does not tell you there is an on/off switch on them. If the lights don't go on you have to disassemble the top and turn the on/off switch on. It took me two days to figure this out. I'd have given the lights 5 stars if I didn't have to figure out the switch issue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worked great, for a very short time We bought several boxes of these and put them around our back fence to line and light up the post around the backyard. Yes, you have to remove the black top of the light to turn the unit on. But then they are supposed to come on when it is dark. They worked great the first night. The second night, I noticed that a few of them were not lit up. I tapped on them and some of them came on. Others I had to open and turn the switch off and then on again, and then the light came on. The second night even more of the lights did not come on. Same thing… Either tap on them or turn the switch back off and on again. Same thing the third night. But one of them would not come on at all. Then in a short time, all but two of the light had turned themselves off again. This rather defeats the purpose of "automatic lights". If I have to go out every 10 minutes and tap them or turn them off and on to make the lights come on again, that's really not the point! Very cheaply made and dysfunctional. I will be returning all of these.

These units work well for about 2 months, then as the sun crazes the top, they become less reliable. When the units craze, the battery isn't charged and will die. This is the case with MOST Solar lights, not unique to this one.

I cleaned them several timed and even put them in direct sun light for a day thinking that was the problem; still didnt work. I ended up buying a much cheaper option from Walmart.
