Yes and no. Yes, if the fan and light were off before the remote was lost, you need a replacement remote. If the fan and light were on, then the main light switch will control the light and fan on and off..

Answer:
Unfortunately, if you lose the remote you will not be able to operate the fan.
You can, however, call 1-855 HD-Hampton (855-434-2678) and order a new transmitter. Then, just match up the dip switches and you will be able to operate the fan again.

Hello,
You would be correct; as the remote would control and operate the lights and fan.
If it is powered by a nearby wall switch, that can control the turning off and on of the fan/light, but it won't control it.
To get a replacement remote for your Hampton Bay Southwind fan, call them at 1-877-527-0313 and select option 2.

Make sure to have the SKU and model number ready, it is on top of your fan and on the website if you don't know it.
You will most likely need to replace the receiver in the fan as well, since both need to be synced up exactly for them to operate together.

Answer:
Yes. The canopy attaches directly to the motor and the canopy/motor then attach to the mounting bracket. There is a hook on the mounting bracket to hang the canopy/motor assembly (through a screw hole) in order to wire electrical connections before making the final attachment to the mounting bracket.

Answer:
Not with the supplied hardware. With the provided 4" hanger pole, the fan body is about 6" below the ceiling. By cutting a couple inches off the tube and drilling a new hole, the fan can hang just below the ceiling mount cover, essentially flush with the ceiling.

Hi Jerry, while you can't mount this fan in a true flush mount fashion. You can certainly get what is called close to ceiling mount. Take a look at page 8 and 9 on the instruction manual. This manual is located on the web product page.

This is specified as an indoor fan with a weight of 21 pounds. I have seen people use indoor fans outdoors...the blades usually begin to sag with moisture before you run into problems with the motor.

Hi, cr1234,
Yes, this fan has three speeds: low, medium and high. Each speed has it's own button. And the light is a dimmer light. Goes from very low light up to bright light. To dim the light (two bulbs) you press the light button without taking your finger off and that dims it or brightens it. Very easy.
I hope this helps!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I like it a lot So far so good. It looks modern and is really strong. Put it in my daughter's bedroom and she loves it! September 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful Fan I love the fan, installed it myself. My only item would be the light bulbs that come with the fan are not that bright. But when you turn the light on in the evening, it's plenty bright. It just doesn't help add any additional light during daylight hours. I guess it's personal taste. I will probably look to see if I can increase the wattage of bulbs for more light. Overall though, I highly recommend this fan! August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very nice fan for the money this fan is very quiet and moves a lot of air. the remote and the dimming light are both very convenient, a lot of extras for the money. just ordered another one August 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by FANtastic! Great value! I purchased 2 Matte White fans. I plan to purchase a 3rd one, if these ever are back in stock. Installation was quite easy. I chose Close Mount installation for both rooms for maximum clearance. I really like how the white fans kind of disappear into the white ceilings. That, along with the extra clearance makes the rooms look larger and lighter. No more albatrosses hanging from the ceiling. And...no more pull chains! The remote control includes a bracket for mounting on the wall, which is perfect for one fan which is hard-wired. One fan is wired to a wall switch; so, I can turn the fan/light on/off from the wall switch, and keep the remote by my bed or in the mounting bracket. It uses 2 bulbs (included), but I knew not to expect it to put out a lot of light. I've read other reviews and questions/answers which tell of other types of appropriate bulbs which give off more light. I plan to replace the bulbs, AND also will be getting ones that are dimmable. This fan looks very nice--crisp and clean. I took photos, but the fans look better in real life. April 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet and Effective Fan Excellent quality fan. Easier to install than others I have worked with, with gaskets to help maintain silent operation and a collar to hide seam with ceiling. A little difficult to wire transmitter in because wire are somewhat short, but the problem is easy to overcome. Only design flaw is in hand remote, where battery is too close to toggle switches and can push switches to change the settngs. I used tape to hold the battery in place, which seems to work. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Fan This ceiling fan was installed in our bedroom two weeks ago and we absolutely love it. Looks nice and works great. It wobbles a little on high speed and Hampton Bay provided a balancing kit to rectify the wobble if necessary. Low and medium speeds move the air nicely and so I don't anticipate using high speed often. August 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Smoothest, quietest.............. This fan replaces our old '97 Hampton Bay remote reversible which was disabled by an electrical surge during a storm. Although not reversible by remote control, we are extremely happy with the product. The fan is the smoothest running, most quiet I have ever had. No wobbling, humming or rattling. Smooth as silk. Ease of installation was enhanced by the excellent set of instructions and parts that fit together perfectly. We are now considering this same model for replacement of other fans in the house. August 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice fan The fan was easy to install and worked flawlessly. August 23, 2016
