I love the look of our new island. However the hardware to assemble it was very low quality. You could not tighten it enough to hold the pieces together. We had to go to our local hardware store and purchase better quality hardware. Once we did that, it went together easily. One stool was damaged when it arrived, but customer service was able to help us quickly and satisfactorily. Over all it is a very attractive and functional addition to our kitchen.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JamesC Good quality. High-end look. Adds useful storage and counter space.
Since we have a dining room adjacent to our kitchen, we decided to do away with our existing 5 pce table and chair set and replace it with this island and 2 bar stools. The island was delivered in 3 large boxes, with each stool in its own box, for a totoal of 5 boxes. The components were impressively well-packaged, with a dumpster load of styrofoam and cardboard, but even so, a few parts managed to get damaged. Assembly isn't terribly difficult, but it's also not what I'd consider easy. There are a lot of pieces and parts to keep track of. Fortunately, each part is labeled and corresponds to illustrations in the included instruction pages. Since I wanted my assembly to be permanent and without the need to ever have to tighten bolts, I assembled the island and chairs with a good quality wood glue and/or applied Permatex red to the threads of each bolt. I've assembled lots of RTA furniture and compared to other RTA furniture, the quality of this island an chair set is very good, made mosly of solid wood with all screw holes lining up perfectly. A review I'd read commented on the quality of the hardware, so I expected that I may need to buy replacement hardware before I could start the process of assembling the island and chairs, but the included hardware was decent, and included extras, so I used it. I was able to tighten down on the hex bolts, being careful to to split the wood, without stripping, rounding or mashing the bolts using the included hex tool. The drawer glides are basic cabinet draw glides, which function well. The bottom of each drawer is thin (about 1/8-inch), but is adequate for storing a couple of cookbooks or a handful of cooking utensils. The lower cabinets are separated by a center partition. Each cabinet contains 2 adjustable shelves, for a total of 4 shelves. The oak veneer top seems durable and shows a lot of oak grain, but the stain on the edges is thin, which I could see would quickly become an unsightly issue, especially if the chairs swivel into it and cause the finish to flake off, so I applied several coats of a satin finish rub-on polyeurethane to the oak top and edges in the hopes of adding a level of durability to the finish. The chairs come partially assembled, with the back attached to the seat. The base needs to be constructed, which can be a challenge for one person, but is easier if you loosley assemble the parts and tighten the bolts when everything is in its place. The chairs are sturdy and a good height for the table, but the ball bearing swivels aren't hi-quality and therefore don't move as smooth and easy as they should. Overall, I'm satisfied with this island. We did a significant amount of research prior to purchasig this island and stools and believe this presents a very good value and will provide the additional storage our small kitchen needs, as compared to a comparably sized custom island costing several times the price of this one.
