Customer Questions & Answers

What size is the box in which these are sold? (will it fit in the back of a small hatchback?)

Asked by: apw1
It sure will. It would also fit in your back seat. It is only as long as the shelves are.

Does this Shelving come with casters?

i purchased Casters with Bumper, SKU 100658236 and they don't seem to work with this shelving.
Asked by: 4frogs
no casters in the box. not sure I would use casters with this style shelving unit. If you want to move it around buy the wire grid style shelving.

Does this shelf have adjustable legs/feet, if my floor is uneven?

Asked by: Francis
There are tiny plastic feet covers for this shelf. Removing a plastic foot gives you about an eighth inch of play for uneven floors. Beyond that, the only adjustment mechanism is to set one vertical support a full hole higher than another. But surely your floors aren't uneven to the tune of a full inch. You are better off with some wood shims.

I've purchased 6 of them over the last year for storage in my unfinished basement. I read the concerns in the reviews about getting the top section attached to the bottom, but as long as I started the corner rails at an angle (with the pointed corners in the connector piece and tapped the top in until the center followed into the connector, they went together fine.) The shelves are perfect for standard plastic storage totes. They are Very sturdy. Now, I don't have to move other totes around each time I want one from the bottom.

I was able to do it by myself and with the adjustable shelf heights you can really make it fit your needs. I also put 2 8x8x8 cinder blocks under each leg to give me some extra height on the bottom for a trash can. I had some extra kitchen shelves I wasn't using that I added between the two racks for light weight items. So glad to have the large items tucked way nicely now. The shelves went up quickly within an hour. I will also be adding some screws to secure it to the wall.

My hubby threw a fit over it so when we bought the second one, I put it together. Easy ! Peasy! This shelf is 2 foot deep and the storage capacity is excellent. Our garage has been a dump for 4 years and I got sick of it. These shelves are not cheap so I have been buying one a month. I now have 4 and that should be enough to completely organize the garage. After the third one, I can now see the workbench.

It was relatively easy for me to put together by myself. I was putting items on the shelving today when the middle shelf collapsed with less than 500 lbs of weight on it, taking down the shelf below it also. Fortunately everything fell toward the back of the shelving unit, so I was not injured. The shelf supports apparently spread out under the weight, allowing the shelves to fall through the supports. I would strongly suggest that if you plan to place more than 200-300 lbs on each shelf, you use cable ties or something else to keep the shelf support rails from flexing outward. The shelf supports are not designed to prevent lateral flexing. I had originally purchased three of these units, but space did not allow for them, so I returned two and bought smaller units. Glad about that now. This unit did not meet my expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE these shelves!!!!! I bought these shelves because my other plastic shelves were beginning to buckle. So glad I paid the extra money for some quality steel shelves for my stockpile. It literally took me from 11am to 8pm to put together and organize the shelves. Once you get the hang of how to assemble, it's a lot easier to do the rest. I purchased 3 units and they fit perfect. I put together all by myself and I am a woman. Maybe easier for a man to assemble. I am hurting and sore from the heavy boxes. Anyway, buy these shelves. You won't be dissappointed!!! Only con would be the wire racks are sort of wide. Had to add bins for small items. May purchase liners later.

I thought this would be a great heavy-duty shelf, but was very disappointed in the construction after setting it up. I'd return it if I had the time, but spent my only free afternoon for awhile installing it in a tight space (it's barely good enough), so I won't. But as I was cursing my choice, swore I'd discourage others from making the same mistake. Overall, the problem is the materials just aren't heavy enough, specifically: 1) the verticals are pretty flimsy and won't stand up to any kind of side loading. I had to move the unit horizontally (less than a foot) and in doing so, one of the verticals bent/buckled. I've purchases 6 or 7 similar shelving units from Costco/Sam's (for less money, particle board shelves instead of wire) and expected similar quality for HD's price (which is about $10 higher). In my other shelves, the verticals and horizontals are *much* sturdier, being made of heavier gauge steel and the verticals have a double-wall construction so it's *way* stronger. (see the picture if the allow it). With the design of this Husky shelf, (one thickness of metal) the gauge should be thicker, but they've really skimped on it. 2) the long horizontal shelf supports easily bow out the wire shelf drops through through easily. I had to slightly bend the supports inward to get them to hold the shelves solidly. There should be a way to attach the shelves to the supports so that bowing out isn't possible. You could drill holes and use wire or cable ties... but why not just buy a better designed and made shelf.

We're using it horizontally in our greenhouse. We've only had it a couple of weeks but seems like it will hold up OK for holding our plants. Meets our needs.
