It would probably be better to run the disposer WITH the cartridges, that's why the unit was purchased in the first place. I ordered extras to keep on hand. The unit WILL function without them.

Hi Kathy,

If you do have a septic system, using the Bio Charge cartridges will allow it to add if bit of the Bio Charge compound to your food wastes that will help with the functioning and maintenance of your septic system. Again the Bio Charge cartridge does not need to be installed for the disposal to funtion normally. I hope I was able to answer your question.

Answer:
With the unit OFF try reverse turning the motor using supplied wrench. From the underside of disposal unit in center bottom place wrench and confirm that unit freely turns left to right. If unit moves freely and you have pressed the reset button check power at outlet some households have GFI plug or separate breaker in power panel.

The unit comes with an "S" shaped wrench that fits in the very center of the bottom of the disposer. insert this wrench and turn... this should free the disposer for normal use.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what we needed After years of having Badger 5 units, we decided to upgrade to the Evolution series. The first thing I noticed is how quiet it is compared to lower priced models. We also are on a septic system so we hope the automatic addition of enzymes will increase the life of our leach field. Only time will tell. We also liked that ISE makes a brushed nickel mounting flange which matches the rest of our sink hardware. We have had the Evolution unit in place for a month now and it has performed flawlessly. We are delighted with this unit. June 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Really Well and is Quiet We bought the evolution Septic Assist for our updated kitchen in Santa Fe. The system was easy to install; it's very quiet; we like that it is designed for homes with septic systems; and it actually looks nice under the sink (not that this really matters but who wants an ugly 'thing' in a beautiful kitchen! Bottom line is that my wife loves it. July 7, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Evolution is an apt description! It it the best disposal Unit I've installed in my residences. I am also quite pleased that it is septic system compatible. July 5, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product - quiet and efficient This product is perfect for our house which has a septic system- the addition of the septic assist is a great innovation. June 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works very well and is surprisingly quiet! It is pretty large due to its capacity and HP. I had to be a little creative to get it under the raised floor bowel in the double sink. It is pretty heavy for the same reasons, so its nice to have someone help hold down the fitting while you lift the disposal into place and attach it to the sink. It's too early to tell about power consumption, etc. September 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product I absolutely LOVE my new insinkerator evolution septic assist!!! What a difference in the noise level from my previous disposal. This one is SO quiet and there is no vibration on the sink or countertop! June 7, 2016
