is there an experation date on this product

i looked int he bottom but I'm not sure if it's a batched or an expiration date on it?

Date code on this product breaks reads like this: Example used on LOCTITE website "L3 6 F AC569", as found on plug at bottom of tube. L3=Location of production (PUERTO RICO) 6 = Last digit of year produced F = June, Month of production A=1 OR JANUARY, B=FEB, C=MAR, D=APR and so on. AC569 = batch number.

Can the PL S40 Polyurethane sealant be painted prior to the 7 day cure period?

Asked by: Guiseppe1970
I'm holding a used tube of PL S40 right here in my sweaty little hand. Interesting that I find no instruction on the tube about waiting 7 days before painting, and in fact I find no instructions whatsoever on the tube. Isn't that interesting. Regarding the other question about date, this tube has what appears to be "3R3217K42" on the rear sliding closure that the caulk gun pushes on, although it's really hard to tell for sure. Perhaps "Loctite Consumer Relations" would like to share with us how to decode the secret date code that they claim is in there so we can avoid buying more tubes that are already half cured.

Is this exterior only? Or can I use it inside? I need a white paintable caulk that doesn't crack....

Is this exterior only? Or can I use it inside? I need a white paintable caulk that doesn't crack. I used DAP Alex Fast dry around all of my window trim and then painted. A few months later, it's all cracked.

Can I use this around 2 Gauge electrical wires?

I have a conduit that has electrical wires that I would like to seal around the gap and the wires since that is where the leak is coming from.
Asked by: HDDIY
We do not have any information regarding the electro- conductivity of the Loctite PL S40 or any of our other sealants as they have not been tested for this purpose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to work. 2 months after application this product appears to be very good. Application was easy and tooled out nicely. Durability at this time remains to be seen but all indications are excellent.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Caulk - But Use It Quickly This is great caulk. It sticks tenaciously, stays flexible, and does not break down from weathering. The problem is shelf life. If you're a contractor and use multiple tubes per week then you're good. If you're a homeowner doing small fix up jobs you will waste a lot more of this caulk than you actually use. That's because it hardens in the tube in just a few weeks, even when unopened, and becomes unusable. Oh, I almost forgot, when used as directed it takes 3 days of warm temperatures before it's paintable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Sealant of Choice I've been using this for awhile around the house and I used to use it when I had an RV. I have gotten away from silicone as I feel it loses it's adhesiveness to the suface to soon. Hence no more sealing. Also you can't paint over it or apply another sealant over it. This stuff is tough and sticks and stays. It's great on RV's as it's flexible and paintable. I like the heavier density of it to work with it. I'll agree it does dry kind of fast. I keep all my sealants/adhesives plugged and in a mini fridge. Saves wa$te. Great product! Not to be a wise acre.... but did the guy who can't get it out of the tube puncture the seal inside the nozzle??

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good stuff, check the dates I use these types of products all the time and my first advice to anyone buying any of these tubed caulks and adhesives is to check the manufacture date. Most of these things have a shelf life of 12 months under ideal conditions. The frustrating part is finding the manufacture dates so you can tell, before you buy the stuff, if it is fresh, near expiration or useless. Locktite has a cryptic date code stamped into the tube, pretty poor planning for a big time manufacturer. Make it easy to read, stamp it right on the tube, somewhere, anywhere. I had to actually call Locktite in the store to get a straight answer. Regardless of what you buy, I'm sure they would all work great if it is fresh. As it was, the pile of tubes I had to sort through in Home Depot, the newest stuff had one month left and 8 were six months past their expiration. I can't fault Home Depot or any other store, to dedicate employees to look for expired caulks and adhesives would be silly. I would like to think they have a process for getting rid of expired stuff. Sure, they will refund your money, but what about the manhours wasted removing bad caulk and doing the job again. Considering the nature of this job, of caulking windows and siding, unless you actually checked the caulk the next day most people would not know if it was bad and didn't cure. Of the 7 tubes I bought, one tube ruptured although the caulk was in fine condition. Perhaps the tube had fallen and bent, weakening the tube. In conclusion, check the expirations dates, buy the freshest and check the physical condition of the tubes for damaged or weak spots. If I have any complaints it would be that the age of the store stock was so old. If you read other reviews and see negative comments, compare their problems to the advice I just gave.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from door and window caulking If your looking for a one time application, this is it. This stuff is super tacky and will stick to anything, long as it's clean. Then look out, don't try and take it apart. This is the best product I've found. Doesn't harden in the tube after you use it once. You can keep using it everyday for a week. All you do is peel off the nub on the end of the gun and caulk away. Does not harden in the tube. I'm buying more of this product. Only gig I can give this is the cleanup from your hands. Think it says to use mineral spirits or equivalent. I use hand cleaner to remove it. But again for caulking you can't beat it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First time user review Well... I'm not an expert on sealants or adhesives. But I've used many brands of sealants over the years - mostly for generic indoor use. I don't recall ever having had an issue with any of them. This product I bought because I needed something to protect around the outside wooden window frame in some attic windows I was repairing. After 10 hours the sealant still hasn't cured 100% It's very sticky to the touch. I saw someone mentioned 3 days. At this rate that sounds right. The portion that was hanging out of the end of the used tube was still tacky too. Very rubbery. I suspect, once cured, this will be a very robust solution to waterproof joints on the outside of the house. I was expecting it to fully cure in a few hours though. There's no mention of the curing time on the tube anywhere. And I agree with the other reviews, there's a lot of waste if you don't use it all right away. A smaller portion would have been better for my needs but I suspect the cost for a smaller tube would be greater also. I saw nothing that looked like an expiration date on the tube. Home Depot is very good about returns/exchanges so I wouldn't worry about that too much. Anyway, I give it a mostly good review but if you need something with a faster cure time look elsewhere.
