Controls keep "locking"

This question is from 16-Bottle / 77 Can Dual-Zone Wine and Beverage Cooler

Just installed and have found the controls keep defaulting to the "locked" setting even after adjusting the lower section temperature. After a brief period the lock light comes on and stays on. Then the lower section doesn't change temperature and the light cannot be turned on/off. The manual seems to say that once you unlock the control panel it should stay that way until you manually lock it and locking the panel should not prevent the unit from cooling. Anyone else encounter this problem?.

Answer:
This is how it is supposed to act. It is stated in the manual that it will lock after a certain amount of time has passed.
Considering the original poster posted it in July 2014, and I got mine about 2 months ago, it's possible that they have updated the manual b then.

The same behavior exists in my replacement unit; however, this one cools just fine...
My conclusion is that the locking is actually a "feature"....

Can you tell me if the shelf in the lower section is adjustable, and if so, can it be placed so that there is a section with at least a 10" clearance for beer bottles, AND a section with at least a 5.5" clearance for cans?

Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 265 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Beverage Cooler quiet operation, sleek look with the light on, great design with two separate temperature controls July 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dual zone feature will quickly fail I returned my second refrigerator to HD today. The first one failed in dual zone mode within a month of buying it, so I had it replaced at the store and bought a warranty. The second one failed within 60 days so I got my money back on both the warranty and fridge. This model is a disaster, the dual zone feature will fail quickly. If you truly want a dual zone model, get something else. This product is horrible and shouldn't be sold. August 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worked great until it died completely 2 weeks before the warranty was expired This product was a great purchase at first, liked the dual zone to keep wine and beer at different temperatures. Easy to operate and kept beverages at a nice cool temperature. about 2 weeks before the warranty was up the bottom section stopped cooling. I called Magic Chef and they sent a repair guy out and he said a new board was needed. Two weeks later the top section was no longer cooling. The new board came in and was installed. The repair guy left thinking it would solve both problems. After waiting the 4 hours in which the owners manual instructs you to wait for proper cooling, the fridge in either section had not cooled at all. Not even 1 degree. I called the repair guy back he came to check it and no power was getting to the compressor. He reported his findings to Magic Chef. They emailed me requesting me to cut the power cord and send it back to them before providing me a full refund. They said they do NOT replace appliances. So now I have to deal with disposing of the freon, which the repair guy told me can cost up to $180! this is so annoying that Magic Chef can't pick up their faulty appliance and stick me with a broken unit. Thanks for the refund and the hassle. I wouldn't recommend this at all. August 21, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by beverage cooler This is our second purchase of THIS particular cooler. The first one lasted 2 months past the warranty! It is the only cooler we could find with dual controls therefore we purchased another one. Hopefully this one will be longer lasting. The first cooler was bought on Black Friday. Could they have been defective or had been installed with deficient parts? We will see..... August 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wine and beverage refrigerator Love the new refrigerator. Would recommend to any new purchaser. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Wine/ Beer refrigerator Unit chills well and has plenty of room . Great looking . July 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works good, but user error caused issue Bought two of these for my basement in December of 2014 and one works great. The other we put a 12 pack of pop in the bottom zone and accidentally blocked the fan on the back wall. I noticed the temperature rise so i investigated. By blocking the fan we cut off the air flow and the fan iced over. I unplugged the fridge to let it defrost and after we did that it worked for a couple of weeks. Now the fan has stopped working, to be honest i was surprised that it worked at all after the ice build up. looking for a replacement fan as I think that if the fan is replaced the lower zone will work again as the top zone still maintains temperature. So over all very satisfied and it was our lack of knowledge on how the fridge works which caused it to break down. June 21, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Piece of junk save your money and don't buy it Broke down after 6 months, top parts stays cold and bottom part doesn't cool. Got it fixed under warranty for free (the main board was replaced with an upgraded design). 5 Months later it is doing the same. What a waste of money. HD please stop carrying an MC appliance, they lost my business (and everyone I know) forever. July 6, 2016
