Customer Reviews

22.5 in. Charcoal Kettle Grill is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from It will work I assembled the grill and it was about an hour of work. I would suggest having a table to build it on and maybe a second person to help. Had to use plyers to crimp the legs to fit the nuts on the front legs. I am not happy with the height of the grill. Home Depot didn't have one assembled and so I had no idea it was built for a person who was height challenged. The legs need to be about 8-12 inches longer. I'm guessing I'll build a 12" platform and put it on that when I use it. I tried their quick start feature but it didn't work.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poorly made. Handles break easily,. I BBQ every weekend. I've been using a gas grill for a few years, but missed the charcoal and wood flavor. So I decided I'd buy a typical kettle grill. I wanted a Weber, but bought the Master Pro because of price. You get what you pay for. The handles on the lid break easily. Broke the first one when simply laying the lid against a wall. The BBQ was only 2 weeks old at the time. Went back to Home Depot and they replaced it with no questions asked. Broke the second one within a month. You might ask, "Was I throwing the lid around?" "No!" I finally made my own handle. Now here is the big issue... try and find a replacement grill for it. Home Depot doesn't carry them and so far I haven't been able to find one on-line. What good is a grill you can't get replacement parts for? I guess I'll have to cough up the extra money and get the Weber. At least you can get replacement parts for them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for This was a sort of bitter sweet purchase, how so? The price was dropped to 49.95 so how could one go wrong with this price reduction. I went to purchase a Weber to add to my 20 year old smoker for doing smaller amounts of cooking and they are now 150 bucks for the same size kettle. It was packaged well but I could tell when laying out the pieces this is a compromise for a kettle type grill. The gauge of the sheet metal is some where around 26-28 gauge which is very thin. The porcelain is also very thin and easy to scratch so be careful with your tools during assembly. Assembly was straight forward and the instructions are laid out well. Assembly time was just 30 minutes. The distance from the cooking grill to the briquet grill is farther than usual. I like that distance for adding some wood and less chance of burning during flare up's if you like to baste. I like to cook slow and this does the job for that. The legs that come with the Kettle are pretty short but a longer leg set is offered. I will call them and have the longer leg set shipped if I decide to keep this unit. I think I rated this fairly since I do have experience in grilling and smoking and have owned many brands. You can't beat it for 49 bucks so go for it if you don't have the 150 to lay out for a Weber which is far superior in quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost too good! Easy to assemble, unique charcoal lighting system that doesn't require lighter fluid, so easy to clean. This grill was not meant for high intense searing. It's very friendly when it comes to charcoal. A little bit goes a long way. It's a cheap unit simply built to get the job done quickly. No complaints whatsoever for something that cost me $89. For an occasional griller only.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage Legs started rusting after 6 months, handles don't last a year and the overall build quality is just garbage. It cooks food just fine and the lighting system is nice but if I can't lift the top off by the broken handle or move it around or take out the ash can, the second year of ownership its just not worth it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buy a Weber Instead All the handles on this grill broke within the first six months of use. The ash can detached at the welds within a year. I kept it out of the weather with a weber grill cover. Go with a weber grill.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not waste your money on this product. Masterbuilt should not be allowed to sell this. After putting together, I was going to move it and the handle broke on one end, so I used what was left of the handle, and it broke also. The kettle is too deep to sufficiently cook food, unless you want to improvise and elevate the coals, or use a ton of them, which you shouldn't have to do. Unfortunately, the Weber brand is the best in kettle-style grills, and is $150, but obviously worth it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Quality for the Price!!! I felt obligated to write this review due to all the negative reviews I have seen. I purchased this 22.5" Masterbuilt at my local Home Depot for $69.99 (it must have been on sale, i see the price is now at 89.99). Assembly was quick and easy, all the pieces were in the box and the BBQ is sturdy. The only flaw I found was a slight bend on the Ash Catcher which prvented it from sliding in, but a pair of needle nose pliers fixed it. This was very minor and did not take away from unit. I gave it 4 stars only because i have yet to cook on it. I 'm sure it will do the job and deserve that 5 star.
