The hand-tightened clamp handle is capable of being tightened very securely considering the rubber lining within the welded steel clamp. It can be moved fore and aft on the tub side wall. I would be very leery of suction cups holding up to the average woman (105 pounds and up) trying to pull herself up from a sitting position in the tub to upright. I purchased from Home Depot three of the Moen suction cup grab bars to go inside a smooth plate glass shower enclosure but they clearly indicate on the packaging that they may be used to provide some stability to the user but not to support their full weight. Answer:
This tub rail attaches to the tub using clamps. Once the bath tub rail is in its desired position, there is a knob that turns to tighten the clamps for a secure fit. This tub grab bar is made of plastic.

The device fits over the sides of the tub and is tightened in place by hand. No marring of tub. It is made of steel and has a vinyl covering so the steel does not show.

Answer:
Hello Nanoose,
The tub rail attaches via a clamp system that requires no tools. This minimizes the lasting impact of mounting the rail. Looking through customer reviews the rail is highly regarded for stability. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Chris

Answer:
yes but you wouldn't be able to close door, unless you put it as far back as possible, the rails wont be damaged, but you would have about 18" of open door

That configuration with the clamp over the shower door rail would not be sufficiently stable in my opinion and you don't want a loved-one subjected to precarious instability.

bears- This Grab Bar is designed to be wall mounted, it isn't for the tub. With that being said, the Grab bar is designed to be used is a place where you need an additional hand hold... If the wall is close enough to the tub, it could be applied .

Answer:
The Medline Tub Grab Bar (MDS86321H) is designed to be installed on a flush surface. Since this is used for stability purposes, it is important that the grab bar be securely fastened to the tub and we would not advise using this product on an uneven surface.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 121 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Economical, Sturdy and Simple I paid $100 for the apartment complex where I live to install grab rails beside my tub. They would not put them horizontally on the tub itself nor on the tile, but only on the wall beside the tub, and thus, vertically. When I tried to use them to get out of the tub, my wet hands just slid down the vertical rails, my wet feet slid along the bathmat, and I got no help at all. There was nothing on which I could push down to boost myself up. Then I found this product for under $50. All I had to do was place it over the edge of the tub and tighten the screw. It is sturdy and provides a horizontal hand grip that I can push down on to get out of the tub. It can easily be removed for cleaning or to reposition. I wish I had known about this product before I spent that $100 on the wall-mounted rails. October 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Right tool for the task The safety rail arrived at my local Home Depot within 5 days. Easy, no cost shipping. No assembly required. The rail fits snugly over the side of the bathtub without risk of marring the porcelain. Tightens quickly and securely but can be removed just as easily. Although my bathroom is already handicapped accessible, my 91-year-old mom likes to take a bath occasionally. The shower rails are positioned too high for her to safely ease herself into the tub. This safety rail gives her the added support she needs for both entering and exiting the tub. I highly recommend this product! February 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Solid Construction - Easy to install - Affordable (and Portable) Purchased for my mother-in-law. The item is well built and exceeded my expectations for sturdiness, ease of installation and looks. The design allows for easy entry into the tub on either side. The tub where installed is vertically contoured, but the clamping mechanism allows for this and had no problem attaching tightly. The size and method of installation (no tools) will make this very portable, as well as, easy to clean. March 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A well made product This tub attachment, is so sturdy and makes you feel secure, as your getting into the tub or leaving. The railing part is a good size, to grab onto. The part that attaches to the tub is well made also. Love it! And everyone who uses our shower will too! December 24, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Makes using my deep tub safe & easy I have a curved, deep tub. I had tried the suction grab bars but they were not workable. This bar had to be installed in the middle of the tub side because my tub is so wide. It is very sturdy, easily installs with a twist. It is recommended that you check for tightness before each use. Moisture can loosen it. It is tall and stands out in bathroom. If Idon't like the look, I'll get the permanent bars installed on the wall by the tub. For now, it makes it safe and easier to take a nice soak in my deep tub! December 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Well satisfied. Fully met my needs. Clamps tightly to the tub. Well built. February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product It is made of very strong material, it is very easy to install and extremely practical and useful. The price is grate. I will recommend anyone to have one installed int heir bathtub. I installed it in my whirlpool bathtub where oils are used and the walls are relatively high or tall. August 6, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Compact and effective I installed a tub lift chair in my bathtub and the grab rail on the side of the tub took up too much room to get in. So I replaced it with this small one and it works fine. It is very easy to install and quite sturdy. It helps getting in and out of the tub and up and down on the lift chair. July 9, 2013
