This product consists of a hose barb with a split metal shell around it. The problems with this desigh are 1) there is no clamping on the hose on the sides where the split in the shell is and 2) it only works at all if the hose O.D. is big enough but not to big. Also, there is a problem with the construction. The shells are made of pot metal and are held together with self tappin screws. Not the best idea as the metal is weak and the screws do not engage smoothly. On the other havd they are very inexpensive and, if they fail, you can replace the metal shell with a hose clamp and it will then work.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Beantown Doesn't work with 1/2" hoses - product description is incorrect
I bought this product to repair a smaller-diameter 1/2" hose, because this was one of the few hose repair fittings I could find for that size hose. However, the fitting was too large for my hose. Based on the size of the fitting, I would guess it works for both 5/8 and 3/4 hoses, but certainly doesn't work on 1/2.
The ID of the repair fitting nipple that inserts into your hose is slightly more than 1/2", and of course the OD is more than that. Again, not compatible with a 1/2" ID hose.
Other than that, it looks like a decent part for the money.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by dblues Good product but with exceptions.
Works best on 3/4 " hose. On a 5/8" hose I had to put a few winds of tape on the hose first for a snugger fit. If not, it doesn't quite tighten enough to completely seal. Has not leaked now for several weeks.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by GAEngineer Will not seal on 5/8" garden hose
I have tried to use this product twice and wasted my time both times. I have had the same experience of another reviewer -- it will not clamp down tight enough to seal on an average-duty 5/8" garden hose. It may work better on a heavy-duty hose. That is, if you have a hose with a thick enough wall, it may clamp down tight enough. Otherwise, you might as well get the black tape out to make up the difference. Quality seems ok, and easy to install, but VERY POOR DESIGN!!!

I had to put these things in my bench vise and use both hands just to get the screws out. I've bought these type before from other stores and have never had a problem getting them apart. If you are not careful, you will easily strip the screws. After getting them apart, they mounted easily and work fine. I bought 2 male and 2 female connectors, all are extremely hard to unscrew and when you get them apart, you can see where the threads are messed up.

As other reviews, I believe it works best for 3/4" hose. Easy to install and corrected the problem immediately. Cheap materials though. In my view is worth less than the cost; but again, it does work.

Excellent hose repair. Easy to install too. Make a clean cut on the hose. Slip the nozzle in. Pound it a few times on your sidewalk to get into place. Screw in the tighteners. Affordable and easy to use product.
