Customer Questions & Answers

what is the lead time for an order of about 800 sq ft millstead Birch Dark Gunstock

Asked by: Anonymous
We purchased apx that amount too from our local store and it was in stock already. In my opinion, the best way to order is to buy online to be picked up at the store. This way they pull it for you and have it ready at the service counter. It saves you the time it might take for them to pull from warehouse inventory to fill your order - you get an email when it is ready. Our store also allowed us to designate our contractor as the pick up person so he actually did the heavy lifting.

Do I have to use underlayment in a plywood/second floor installation? In the instructions says it is not necessary

Asked by: George
Yes, and Yes. I put a cheap one and I heard steps every time people is crossing the game room. I should buy the expensive one so I can mitigate the sound.

Can I use the Bruce Hardwood Cleaner on this floor?

I'm trying to find a product that leaves this flooring nice and clean. Vinegar & water leaves a film, and so does Murphy's Oil Soap. What does the manufacturer recommend, does anyone know? Would the Bruce Hardwood cleaner work witht his product? Is there something else I should be trying? Thanks for any info that might help.
Asked by: Jlustew
No, oil soaps and water methods of cleaning are not recommended.

Hand Scraped Hickory Cocoa 3/8 in. Thick x 4-1/4 in. x Random Length Engineered Click Hardwood Flooring(20 sq. ft./case) is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 51.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Durable? Not!! I have to wonder what tests were done to rate the durability of this product. Looks great, but do yourself a favor. Take a fork, yes, just a simple fork, to the store with you before purchasing and drop it on one of the samples. If it doesn't scratch then it's been treated with an additive to help sell it. I'm now sacrificing my feet to deflect things when they fall because anything will dent or scratch this floor. If you have a dog, don't even think about it. I wouldn't even trust a declawed cat with this flooring. One star simply because it looks really nice in those areas of the rooms where nobody ever goes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Durability terrible I have had this flooring for 3 1/2 months and the look is beatiful but durability is terrible. I am not sure how this flooring receives a rating as a 4 on the hardness scale. If you drop anything slightly heavy on it, it dents and scratches very easily. I have been able to cover the dents with a stain pen but it does not hide the scratches. The flooring has a beautiful worn look but in lots of areas it is rough and can catch and pull up leaving, exposed light hickory. The other warning is that if you have slightly to very uneven subflooring, the floating affect is more like a trampoline. Very disappointed in the price and how it is holding up and we have only had it for several months. Worried what it will look like in a few years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks amazing when installed but......... This flooring is absolutely beautiful when you FINALLY get it installed. It is VERY hard to get it to click together. VERY HARD!! I mean an NIGHTMARE. It can be floated or glued. I glued it, and everything else in my house. If you plan to float it then you may not have as much trouble, but I doubt it. The finished floor looks awesome. My issue is with the locking system the flooring incorporates. Flooring that costs this much should not be this hard to install. I am not a contractor but I am very experienced with this sort of work.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks good, but scratches and dents very easily Looked great at first. But I've had this floor for about a year and our 25 pound dog as ruined the floor with his claws, it scratches very very easily. There is a section of the floor by the door that has deep gouges from his claws. It also dents very easily. I have dropped silver wear when i was putting it away and a fork's handle put a pencil sized hole/dent in the floor. My wife dropped a plastic door to the doggy door and it put a hole in the floor. We are already looking at replacing this floor because it looks terrible with all of the scratches. I would definitely tell anyone not to get this product unless you will never drop anything on it, not wear high heeled shoes, or have any pets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product. Timely delivery. This is a excellent flooring product. I installed approximately 200 square feet without difficulty. The indiviual planks are consistantly uniform, as is the very nice finish. When "clicking" planks together, I found it helpful to utilize a "tapping-block" (from a previous laminate product) as a plank is rotated into place, and a small "pull-bar" for the final edge strips of flooring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wood Flooring Excellent engineered wood. Finish is very rich in color and shiny. Installation was easy, wastage during install is very minimal, like 2% of total area. I had mine installed by a professional and covered an area of approx. 900 sq. ft. and there was consistent quality throughout. I strongly recommend this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SCRATCHES AND DENTS DAYS AFTER INSTALLATION, POOR QUALITY FINISH We installed the floor on both levels in the house, spending several thousand dollars to purchase this flooring, and even before finishing baseboards already regretting our decision. As some reviewers here say, the quality of the finish is poor. The floor dents very easily. Simply sitting on the chair will dent the floor or dropping any light objects. Scratches are already everywhere. If you have pets, trimmed nails or not (Contrary to manufacturer responses here) - they will leave marks. During installation you can see finish coating already peeling off on the edges even before fitting planks in place. Buy real wooden floor elsewhere and either finish yourself or buy decent quality pre-finished. Even laminate would be better than this flooring as laminate is harder. Very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with this flooring choice so far Bought this for our 12x12 dining room. Followed the extra 10% rule and ordered 8 cases. Had it shipped to store as home delivery was "Curbside" and didn't want to risk it being out in the weather. Pick-up was easy. This was my first wood floor install and it was relatively easy. Not sure why others gave it low ratings for locking together too hard. I used a dead blow hammer and tapped the edge of the floor up and down the length while putting some pressure on top side. Had no issues with this method and would rather have a firm fit than a loose one. Went together in a matter of hours. Very few boards than were not usable due to splits, knots or handling damage. Used a small sharp chisel to fix a locking groove dent here or there. Ended up with slightly more than one box worth left over. Returned it to the store for a refund with no issue. Looks great, have had a lot of remarks as to how good it looks. Floor was as level as I could get it but not perfect and this being click-lock flooring it is creaky at times in one particular area. Not a fault of the wood floor though. It's been about 3 months so far and no durability issues. Put pads under all of the furniture that can move. Hardness seems good, have not dented or scratched it yet.
