Product Overview

The Milwaukee Step Drill Bit Kit is perfect for drilling large and small diameter holes in steel and plastic. The bits give you jam-free performance optimized for cordless drills in high speed. The dual-flute design gives you quicker holes, longer life and more work time per battery charge. The Rapid Strike tips facilitate fast, accurate starts that generate less heat and give you longer bit tip life. Black oxide coating also enhances the bits' durability, hole quality and bit life. For added convenience and ease of use, each bit has laser-engraved reference marks you can see while drilling. The 3-flat Secure-Grip shank ensures a solid connection with the drill chuck.

  • Jam-free performance from the dual-flute design for greater speed and control with cordless drills at high speeds
  • Rapid Strike tips for fast, accurate starts and less heat
  • Laser-engraved reference marks for easily stopping on any hole size
  • 3-flat secure-grip shank for reduced bit slippage in the chuck
  • Black oxide coating for enhanced durability, hole quality and bit life

How about you list the size of hole it is able to drill?

What is the size of the largest hole this bit can drill?

Asked by: homebrewer
They will work at least once with a pilot hole and drilled slowly. Stainless is definitely a bit killer.

Step Bit - Sufficient Lubricity from Oxide Coating for High Speed in Plastics too? Aluminum?

Here and on Milwaukee website I see "Metal/Plastic" and "Steel and Plastic" described. When chucked in the Fuel 2604 drill, experience tells me that High Speed (Setting #2 on Drill) is fine in Electrical Steel Enclosures / boxes, but in plastics do you recommend the slower drill speed (Speed #1) to prevent melting or does the black coating provide sufficient lubricity to safely drill at high-speed without risking plastic melting/sticking on these new Step Bits? ALSO, is the FUEL Drill 2604's Slower Speed #1 (450 rpm if I accurately recall) still too fast for even occasional hole-making in ALUMINUM Enclosures or Panels? That is, would aluminum surely gall up on the Step Bit even at those slower speeds? What about variable-Triggered Drilling around half power/speed at setting #1 (roughly 200'ish RPM)? What do you advise in this case for aluminum? I'd really appreciate your best, practical advice here rather than erring simply on a "don't do it" reply if Aluminum can be so-drilled with low to moderate 'risk' in galling these new Step Bits.

When drilling aluminum, spray or brush a little kerosene or WD40 on the drill bit. It works to keep the aluminum chips from sticking on the flutes, a little goes a long way. Your drilled holes will be smooth. Advice from a Toolmaker.

These bits work great, bought these after my harbor freight ones broke (Go figure). I've probable used these to enlarge at least 100+ holes in 1/8 thick 1 1/4 by 1 1/4 square tubing so far and it hasn't had a problem yet. The one thing I would've liked is laser etched or stamped sizes on the flutes, because after what I've done so far I can barely see the measurements of the steps.

The first set I had drilled 4 holes and on the 5th hole it stopped drilling at 3/8" even though I was using cutting oil. I returned the first set for exchange and the 2nd set did the same thing. I'll be taking it back tomorrow for a refund.

I gave this 4 stars because i have had the step drill bits before and they stayed sharp after a lot of use. I did not want the drill bits and wounder if the price would have been lower without them?
