Customer Questions & Answers

How about you list the size of hole it is able to drill?

What is the size of the largest hole this bit can drill?

Step Bit - Sufficient Lubricity from Oxide Coating for High Speed in Plastics too? Aluminum?

Here and on Milwaukee website I see "Metal/Plastic" and "Steel and Plastic" described. When chucked in the Fuel 2604 drill, experience tells me that High Speed (Setting #2 on Drill) is fine in Electrical Steel Enclosures / boxes, but in plastics do you recommend the slower drill speed (Speed #1) to prevent melting or does the black coating provide sufficient lubricity to safely drill at high-speed without risking plastic melting/sticking on these new Step Bits? ALSO, is the FUEL Drill 2604's Slower Speed #1 (450 rpm if I accurately recall) still too fast for even occasional hole-making in ALUMINUM Enclosures or Panels? That is, would aluminum surely gall up on the Step Bit even at those slower speeds? What about variable-Triggered Drilling around half power/speed at setting #1 (roughly 200'ish RPM)? What do you advise in this case for aluminum? I'd really appreciate your best, practical advice here rather than erring simply on a "don't do it" reply if Aluminum can be so-drilled with low to moderate 'risk' in galling these new Step Bits.

Precise, clean cuts, easy to control width desired as really no extreme pressure required to start or finish the cut. Little pricey, but worth it if your looking for precision.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much Better Than Irwin or Lenox I'm an electrician and use step bits frequently for drilling holes for connectors in electrical boxes and panels. The Milwaukee step bit doesn't jam like my old Irwin or Lenox bits frequently did. This is especially true when using my 18V drill. I no longer have to fight my drill to get a hole drilled. The tip of the step bit cuts in right away and doesn't wander off its mark, leaving me with a clean, accurately placed hole every time. The additional bits are a great perk as well. This will be the only bits my crews will use from now on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The kit is a good value I was going to get the step bit by itself and saw the kit. You get the great bit, and some extra drill bits and a case for less than if you purchased the two themselves. The regular drill bits are nothing to get excited about but the step bits are really nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Milwaukee Step Drill Bit Kit Another great product from Milwaukee. One of features is 3-flat secure-grip shank: reduces bit slippage in the chuck not like my other one that I have. The end of the Step Drill that you can start with a pilot hole. It tip creates a fast, and accurate hole and doesn't move around on you when you first start drill a new hole. It comes with a 8 drill bits, 2 set up each 1/16, 3/32, 1/8 and 3/16. The number 1 step drill biit #1 drills sizes from 1/8" - 1/2", the #4 drills sizes from 3/16" - 7/8. The markings on the set are Laser-engraved reference marks: Easy to read. Buying the combo will save you money if need the two size. You will not go wrong in buying these products by Milwaukee. The best thing is made in America!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bit. Highly recommend!! I have been a certified electrician for 7 years and the Milwaukee step bits are by far the best I have ever used. Durable, quick starts, and very easy to control. The case is a great addition to keep my bits sharp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I purchased this kit because I needed a stepper bit to enlarge some holes on a 20 ton shop press steel frame. I was worried the steppers would not hold up against the steel plate as it isn't the thickest steel around, but it's not exactly sheet metal either. I was so worried about it that I used some 20w motor oil, drill on medium speed, and applied very little pressure to start. The large stepper went through the steel like it was cardboard! I was amazed. The same large stepper bit is sold for $40 and the smaller one for $20, making this kit a good value with the added bits. I do feel it's still a bit pricy, especially the individual pieces, but I am very pleased with the performance. This is my first experience with the brand and it seems to be of high quality.
