Product Overview

Strong growing, drought tolerant, deciduous shrub with arching branches of green foliage. Large, spike like, purplish red, fragrant flowers are borne from early summer to frost. Plant in full sun in most, well drained soils. In northern climates, plants die back in winter so treat as a perennial and trim to 6 to 8 in. in height in early spring. The plant will quickly reach it's mature height and width of 6 ft. Butterflies and hummingbirds can't resist this long blooming beauty.

  • Blooms attract hummingbirds and butterflies
  • Drought tolerant
  • Fragrant, purple red flower spikes
  • Considered deer resistant
  • Hardy to -20 degrees
  • 2 gal. ships in pot unless state or federal regulations require otherwise
  • We're sorry, but due to state regulations, this plant cannot be shipped to Oregon, South Carolina, or Washington
  • When shipped as a bare root plant, the Shake&Ship™ system will be used to remove soil from the roots, thus increasing the root tip surface area, which in turn, greatly enhances the ability of the plant to rapidly establish itself in the new environment
  • Performs best in plant growing zones 4 to 8, when grown in other Zones, special care requirements will be required
  • To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 6 ft. away from other plants or structures
  • May ship in a dormant state, with bare branches and no leaves, especially in early spring when plant has been pruned back to promote lateral branching

Hello. The only tag on the plant is it's identification label. No neonicotinoids have been or will be used on the plant, as it attracts beneficial butterflies and bees.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from butterfly bush i had never heard of a butterfly bush, untill a recent death of a friend, my grand children wanted to plant some butterfly bushes because she had told them that when she dies she will come back as a butterfly.the bushes were delivered quickly and were in good condition but a little wilted. after planting and lots of water they have started to perk up and are putting out new leaves

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Really disappointed in Texas I received the butterfly bush bare root the beginning of April. It stated that the plant was dormant and to plant. It looked like a bunch of dead branches protruding up from the roots. I followed all the planting instructions and yet two months later it still looks like dead branches protruding up. i was so looking forward to having these to enjoy as have had them in CA for years.
