Does the timer work with any valve

Asked by: Tonytorres
I would say NO because of the plug required on the back of the timer.

Can the additional valves be controlled to water veryday, and another zone every other day?

Being able to control the days to water is most important as this is an experiment on irrigation. One zone will be watered one day for a set time another would be skip a day and water longer. Thank you,
Asked by: JB

For years, if you wanted to automatically water anything away from a power source you had to use battery-powered hose timers. Trouble was, if you had a lot of stuff to water such as a long drip zone you couldn't get enough volume or pressure out those things. Then along comes this little gem. Using a special battery solenoid, it lets you use up to 4 standard 1 inch sprinkler valves. Be advised that the Orbit battery solenoids will only fit their "Jar-Top" valves. The timer handily removes from it's water-proof enclosure so you can take it into the house to set the clock and program it. When adding fittings to either end of the Jar-Top valve(s), be sure to use plenty of teflon tape. Orbit recommends at least 7 turns around the threads of the male 1 inch fitting you are inserting. Please follow this advice. I did and no leaks. Orbit has unfortunately gotten some bad reviews from people who either didn't take the time to do things right or have a "trickler" water system with very low pressure. I'm on a well and my pressure fluctuates between 40psi and 60psi. After 1 month of heavy use, everything works perfectly. If you have a remote location where you need full volume and pressure for drip or sprinklers, this timer is the way to go!

I cannot just buy the control timer and not the valve again that I do not need? This will be the third timer bought. Day before yesterday I go out in the garden and notice the fourth valve did not turn off. It was set for two minutes and was in its third hour. Needless to say, everything in the surrounding area was flooded, including the valve box, which includes the timer. Now the timer doesn't work because it was submersed in water for over two hours.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ok product I have to return the timer, timer came damage. But i have to order same timer because the valve was intalled, and selanoid and timer Its made specific for the valve. MEANING you damage one part, you must order from same orbit in order to make it work. Will not recommend it. For now I am stuck with it.

I purchased a total of 7 Orbit timer valves, model 57860, for watering 3 stations on our property. valve 1 failed once and was replaced, valve 2 failed once and was replaced, and valve 3 failed twice and was replaced twice for a total of 4 failures on 3 different valves) we had the valves fail in the open position ( a valve should not fail open) and ignore the timer and stay on all night until we noticed it the next day. We had massive amounts of erosion damage and astronomical water bills ( once the bill was close to $1k). I can't tell you the amount of work it cause. Erosion problems had to be fixed. Our garden wall was ruined and had to be fixed due to water damage, etc. We didn't trust the valves so we left them turned off and would only trust them ( even thought they were timers, thereby defeating the purpose) to turn on manually while we were standing there. Orbit customer service doesn't care. I contacted them. They even admitted in an email that they know they failed and caused huge amounts of damage. On the most recent failure, we had to have our canyon re packed with soil due to erosion and had all the valves replaced with Hunter brand.
