is this patch and paint REALLY non-toxic?? MSDS says otherwise

your description states " NON TOXIC" but upon looking at the MSDS sheet you have listed I am unsure if that is really the case. Is this product non toxic or not?
Asked by: shelly
It has Silica, which can cause cancer, bronchitis, silicosis when breath in a lot over time. Source: Am painter, lungs junked up from other patching materials. Haven't used this stuff. Wear a mask always with dry sanding. Better to try to wet sand.

I know this may be crazy from a cost perspective, but has anyone ever tried using this, or can it even be used for brand new construction to cover joint seams without using tape, etc. I've tried this product to fix my bathroom ceiling, but was curious how it'd perform on brand new sheetrock vs. the typical large buckets of mud that really need much more sanding etc.
Asked by: nyseinfeld
This stuff will not work for that. Use the premixed bucket stuff and tape. Maybe...maybe could use MH Ready patch and fiber tape for drywall seams. Probably best to use bucket compound.

Can this product be used to fill in cabinet door to give the appearance of a flat panel door?

I'm trying to update my kitchen cabinets (1980's look & feel) and can't afford new doors. There's an arched routered area that I would like to fill-in (1-1/2" wide x 3/4" deep x 60-72 linear inches depending on door size) and then paint. I'm worried that the area is too thick and that if I do it in layers I'll end up later with part or all of it falling out. Bondo has been recommended with the con of having to mix only what you can deal with in 3-5 minutes due to the mixing and drying characteristics -- I don't really want to spend my day mixing every 5 minutes when I have 17 doors to fill-in.

No, don't use this. Use MH Ready Patch, Timbermate or a brushing putty.

8 oz. Premium-Grade Patch-N-Paint Lightweight Spackling is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not as advertised This product is in fact very hard to sand because of the "primer" in the mix. Then to top it off, it still needed 3 full coats of paint to cover the flashing points. It's very clear that this is not what it claims to be. Professional painter of 17 years

I do think that for such a small package the price could be lower. If you buy a larger package to try to get more for your money and save for a later date, you will likely find it has dried and turned hard. So I do recommend buying the smallest size you need for the current task at hand. It does adhere, fill holes nicely, dries quickly and does not appear to shrink or swell. Overall, good spackle.

I use for patching drywall, as well as baseboards and crown moulding before painting. For best results, I like to put it on just slightly thick, then let it dry and sand it down with a little sandpaper.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like it except for one thing ... I really like this because it doesn't shrink or crack. One thing I don't like, though, is that it's so lightweight it often falls off my putty knife before it can be applied. This may be due to the operator, the product, or a little of both. It fills cracks and holes in plaster and wood, smooths out easily with fine grit sandpaper, and paints over nicely. When the product in the container gets a tad dry, I just add a tiny bit of water and mix well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal for ceiling work I used this lightweight spackling for sealing around some new ceiling fixtures, an electrical box for new track lighting and a bathroom ventilator. This stuff is about as light as whipped cream, and is just amazing. Unlike plaster, it doesn't drip or sag. I wouldn't expect it to hold a nail, but who's driving nails into ceilings anyway? It also worked great for patching up old nail holes in some walls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spackling that works! A Home Depot employee suggested I get the Patch-n-Paint Lightweight Spackling to fill in holes in my basement's drywall before painting. Since I'd never worked with spackling before, I wasn't sure what to expect, but let me tell you -- I couldn't be happier that he suggested this product to me. It was EASY to apply -- just dip your finger into the spackling, and then apply it to the small holes in your walls. Wait overnight, and then go smooth it out using fine or extra-fine sandpaper. Then, paint away. EASY.
