I use this product every time I move or fix a rental. No tools needed, I just use my finger for small nail holes. It dries pretty quickly but in the container, it's lasted for years.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by happygardener I like it except for one thing ...
I really like this because it doesn't shrink or crack. One thing I don't like, though, is that it's so lightweight it often falls off my putty knife before it can be applied. This may be due to the operator, the product, or a little of both. It fills cracks and holes in plaster and wood, smooths out easily with fine grit sandpaper, and paints over nicely. When the product in the container gets a tad dry, I just add a tiny bit of water and mix well.

A Home Depot employee suggested I get the Patch-n-Paint Lightweight Spackling to fill in holes in my basement's drywall before painting. Since I'd never worked with spackling before, I wasn't sure what to expect, but let me tell you -- I couldn't be happier that he suggested this product to me.
It was EASY to apply -- just dip your finger into the spackling, and then apply it to the small holes in your walls. Wait overnight, and then go smooth it out using fine or extra-fine sandpaper. Then, paint away. EASY.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by jdarling2k Ideal for ceiling work
I used this lightweight spackling for sealing around some new ceiling fixtures, an electrical box for new track lighting and a bathroom ventilator. This stuff is about as light as whipped cream, and is just amazing. Unlike plaster, it doesn't drip or sag. I wouldn't expect it to hold a nail, but who's driving nails into ceilings anyway?
It also worked great for patching up old nail holes in some walls.
