I don't think they're designed or effective to double-hung windows. You need to find one specific for that type of window. Check Home Depot's web site; they have all kinds of window security locks, which I believe include double-hung windows.

Yes they would. They grip but don't lock tight until you flip the locking mechanism.

I am using it on vinyl windows that open vertically. It does work on some of my windows but not on others. Your best bet is to buy it and return it to Home Depot within 30 days if it doesn't work out.

one lock per slider window. If you have 2 slider windows in a window opening, use 2 locks - one for eachslideable window.

Answer:
One is sufficient because even if you use 2, any window can be broken with a simple rock. So one window lock will do the job to stop it from sliding open just fine.
Only time i would consider 2 is if i planned to go away on vacation, but even then........rock.

The term "white vinyl" refers to what the coating of the lock is. It has nothing to do with the type of window pane you have, be it glass, plexi-glass, etc.
The principle of the lock, however, is functional primarily for horizontal sliding windows, which fit onto the window frame track.
I don't think they'd work on vertical opening (combination) windows; nor would they work on windows that are hinged

I don't think they'd work on vertical opening (combination) windows; nor would they work on windows that are hinged to open with a turn crank that sits on the base of the window sill.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 33 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This indeed a great product but you have to do it in irregular way to make that work PERFECTLY! You don't just clip both sides (left and right) to make it work. You clip (both units) in one side to make it works perfectly! ----------BOTH UNITS------- at one side! Vinyl windows just suck, you don't drill holes or do anything that harms the surface of the windows. I tried one at a side, I could still push the window up. When I just put both clips at one side, I think I have to break the window frame to make it open. Very secured. Try it if you had a set. July 26, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Piece of junk, don't waste your time or money. It's junk. Poorly designed and doesn't lock anything. It looks like the quick release on a bicycle seat, but there is no difference in tension regardless of the lever position. They just put zero effort into this. Save your money. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lock for window Great product for our need to our vinyl windows. Easy to install. It is not bulky either. August 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by works great Just starting installing them and they seem to work great, easy to install. I thought the price was a bit high but then found that they are 2 per package, which was not stated on line. July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product; it's what I needed. The locks were simple and easy to install; very secure in the window track June 21, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by GOOD SECURITY TECHNOLOGY Easy to install, even for a height and strength challenged senior woman. May even offer some protection against someone pushing in tilt-in windows, which is not mentioned as a protective factor. June 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good to increase safety works well, need pliers to tighten enough to do its job, otherwise would be a bit loose if you push hard to open the window June 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product! This product does make me happy! I own 2 of these and am off to buy about 4 more....It looks better than a "stick" in the window (to block the window from sliding) and it is very secure. (truthfully i like the stick and this device together- they can see the stick from the street along with my electronic alarm sign and my beware of dogs sign.) By the way....any window left open no matter what device you use is a visual invitation for any burglar, i don't care if you have a 1000 dollar device installed, if a window is open it is not secure. Even if a window is closed it can be easily broken with a simple rock from your garden. BUT- if you are like me and want to slow down or make a burglar make a lot of noise to break a window...it allows a better chance the thief will be slowed and at the very least make your home less attractive to break into. It also gives my dogs a chance to bark like mad and wake me up to handle the situation. My neighbor across the street chased off 2 burglars that broke into someones house side window, the noise alerted her and it scared them off. Anything you can do to slow down a criminal is go side good in my book. June 3, 2016
