You can't. I tried in the San Diego/LA area. I had to ship it to store (but when I did, it kept saying it was out of stock). I had to use the chat function - the sales support lady had to do some behind the curtains maneuvering to get it to work.

Is this a quiet vacuum? If this isn't the quietest shop model, then which one is?

This question is from 3 gal. 3.5-Peak HP Portable Pro Wet Dry Vac

I don't need much power. And smaller is a plus. I have read that Ridgid makes some quiet shop vacs. I need one quieter than others so as to not scare confined animals. Does not even have to be a wet/dry vac: any vac with a hose, but not noisy, is the criterion.

Thanks for any help with this.

In the past I've used insulation around a shop vac to keep the noise down. I sort of 'dressed' the vac in sound dampening insulation and it worked quite well. You would want to make sure you do not impede the flow of the air intake or outtake...this would cause damage and possibly even a fire. I wouldn't call it quiet. You need a model that has a blower port option so you can get a noise reduction muffler. Item " Ridgid VT2525". Get the muffler and choose any size vacuum you need.

You can buy filters online or at The Home Depot. I believe they are about $10-12. I've used the same rigid filters for 1-2 years with heavy usage, so the the typical homeowner should get at least that much life out of them. One of the keys is to open the vacuum up and let the filter dry out if you used it for wet clean-ups.

This model only uses filters. There are three types one may use.
The Standard Pleated filter which is white.
The Specialty Pleated filter which is blue...this filter is for use in liquid pick up.
And the 5 Layer Allergen Pleated filter (green) which is good for people who have allergies.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 384 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Tips over - deal breaker it is a good compromise off small footprint yet strong suction, and I really wanted to like this vac, but... - somewhat top-heavy and very prone to falling over: a) when the flex hose is extended, or b) when the hose or attachment is flush against an object,(cleaning a floor with the end at an angle, it works great; but put the end flush against a carpet and the suction power immediately tips the vac over - unit does not seal tight, the top does not clamp down tight to the bottom, not a problem when it sits on the floor, but if you lift the vac while using it, the top lifts up just a fraction, and I suspect loses suction power August 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A top-notch product.. This vacuum combines several great features that many other units just don't have. First of all, it's a smaller unit which makes it easier to store, others all seem to be big round units that are always in the way, this one can be tucked under a bench, in a closet, etc. Next is the actual suction of it...it beats all but a full size shop vac with 2 1/2 inch hose, certainly plenty of vacuum and air flow for any job I need. I also like the fact that when not in use, you can store the hose and nozzle right on the unit and not have to figure out where to put those items when not in use. Ridgid...you did a great job with this one! July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works great I have the larger vacuum but needed the smaller more versatile one as well. It works great for what I need. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Size This shop vac is not at all clunky like the larger ones. You can lift it easily and transport it to the car, the back yard, into the RV, and anyplace because it is so lightweight and portable. August 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Portable Vac Only had it for a short time but wish I had bought it a long time ago. Perfect size and plenty of power to get the job done. Use it for my car, around the house and workshop. So much nicer than lugging around a larger unit. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just the right size for small jobs I use this to clean up small areas of the carpet after the dog could not hold it while we were away or when the dog or kids track mud in. It works great. Spray cleaner on the spot. Brush it in pour water on it. Suck it up with the shop vac. Mess all gone! Beats dragging around the 5 gallon size. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by AWESOME! Fired it up tonight and just love it. Also the newer model has the LED light on the nozzle for the car. this thing is power full ... going to use it on our stairs in our apartment as well. August 5, 2016
