Product Overview

This residential and light commercial grade in-line valve replaces Rain Bird and other irrigation valves installed below ground with 3/4 in. female threaded inlet and outlet. It can be used with any 24 volt AC irrigation timer. Its unique reverse-flow design helps prevent flooding in the event of internal diaphragm failure, keeping the valve closed and saving water. This valve can be applied with all types of watering devices including Rain Bird spray heads (1800, 600), and rotors (22SA, 32SA, 42SA+, 52SA, LG3 and AG5). Use in-line valves in locations where the use of a pressure vacuum breaker (PVB) or a double-check valve is required by code to protect against backflow. Check your local codes to determine what type of valve is required. After installation and before startup, always the flush system of dirt and debris manually using the valve's external bleed screw.

  • Designed for in-line (below ground) installation with approved back flow prevention device (not included)
  • 3/4 in. female threaded inlet and outlet (use 3/4 in. MPT threaded pipe adapters with Teflon tape)
  • 24 VAC, 50/60 Hz automatic operation or manual activation with bleed screw
  • Buna-N diaphragm offers superior performance in harsh water environments
  • Energy efficient, low power encapsulated solenoid with captured plunger for long lasting dependability

When you apply current, does it opens or closes? Is the opening/closing process instantaneous or its gradual and takes a few seconds? When you apply current, it opens, you apply the same polarity current again - it closes? How do you control opening and closing? By changing polarity? Do you need to run current, when it's in closed or opened position? I've read the manual in the store and there is no information about it. Thank you.
Asked by: Mark
The valve is normally closed and functions somewhat like a regulator on SCUBA equipment. When current is applied, a solenoid instantly opens a small hole that allows pressure to bleed from behind a diaphragm to the pipe downstream of the valve. This allows water pressure upstream of the valve to push open a main seal attached to the diaphragm. When current ceases, a spring pushes a seal over the bleed hole and a smaller channel to the upstream side allows pressure to build behind the diaphragm and the value closes. From inspection of a disassembled value, I think that it opens very quickly, but closes perhaps a second or two slower. The valve will operate on DC or AC current at or around 24 volts. Polarity is unimportant.

Loud buzzing?

Does this valve normally make a loud buzzing? I've bought 3 and they are all quite noisy when activated.
Asked by: me
Make sure the solenoids are hand tight in the body. Just a guess. I did not notice any buzzing by my new valve.

Lowest working pressure?

Will these valves work on very low pressure (3-5 psi)?
Asked by: 303country
This is an solenoid controlled valve. It is open or closed, so pressure should not be an issue with the unit itself, however your overall system will likely need some working pressure range and you should do some calculations help determine you expected results. One factor is how much max flow can be expected and you would need to size your piping, etc. on that factor as well. As for flow, I have a bypass valve (3/4" gate) and can see no difference between the two. Hope that helps.

There are no issues, but I cannot vouch for reliability. I problems I ran into have nothing to do with the product, but are important. First, do everything you can to avoid replacing an old valve. Get a rebuild kit if you can find one. Inspect the inside of a valve--they are quite simple. There may be trash holding the valve open. The reason to do this is that the body of the valve, the part that is permanently installed, is very simple and not likely to fail. The body will likely have to be cut out and re-installing is difficult. Adjustable length mending connectors are available, but there may not be space. There are pvc unions available at Home Depot. Also, if you cannot connect two pipes with a collar without digging up a lot of pipe, consider using two collars and a close nipple. On new work none of this is important.
