If you are covering an area wider than the width of one roll, you will need to install a second run beside the first and bond them together with the adhesive strip found on the edge of the rolls. To do this, the edge of one roll will have an adhesive strip covered by a protective strip, which you will peel off. Butt the foam edge of each roll together and then place the plastic tape/flap on the second roll over the adhesive on the first roll. Press and smooth the flap onto the adhesive. This forms a continuous layer/moisture barrier from wall to wall and provides a smooth/even surface on which the floor will lay.
As you cover your work area you will probably find that the end where you finish will need to be trimmed, leaving only a foam edge. This is acceptable. According to the manufacturer, make sure you install the foam 2-3" up the wall. I do not think that the foam needs to be adhered to the wall. I then covered the foam with wood baseboard.
Hope this helps.......good luck! Read Less

The roll is marked "this side up". I always start with the plain edge to the starting wall. This allows for the tape to be used the connect to the next piece.

The pad itself can get easily broken when being installed. I would suggest a 6mm poly film. It only costs $6 for 300 sq ft at lumber liquidator.

This product will work, but does little for soundproofing and would likely not be good for floors above grade, in my opinion. If you are not concerned about sound, this product will do the job.

I recently used it over concrete in my basement. I have not previously had any moisture issues in the area but any concrete, especially sub-grade installations, will contain a certain percentage of moisture so I wanted to play it safe. I then installed Trafficmaster Allure vinyl simulated wood planks over the top. Although Home Depot in-store staff does not recommend this underlayment for the Allure product, it solved my problem of a crunching sound when the vinyl was first installed directly on concrete and was walked on. The product also helped to smooth out transitions from old concrete to areas that I repaired and/or ;leveled with a Henry floor patch product.

Thank you for your inquiry.
We do not recommend using multiple layers of underlayment as this will create too much cushioning and could cause too much flex at the joints. This could damage the flooring.

Hi ATKV,
ONLY use one form of underlayment; using additional layers are not recommended, as it can separate the planks and lead to voiding the warranty you have on your new floors.
The only time when you can possibly use more than one type of underlayment, is when the bottom one (cork typically) is firmly glued to the subfloor.

It's sold at your local Home Depot as well as here online.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 106 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product Underlayment was great. This was installed on a second floor over plywood, so I didn't need a vapor barrier, but the couple extra cents spent on this compared to even cheaper underlayments was worth it for the tiny bit of extra padding and noise reduction. Installation was very easy with attached tape. Its been about a month now and I am pleased with this purchase. February 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product when used correctly Used this under some pergo presto. It was a bit unruly since the way it is rolled, you have to roll it from underneath, but all in all a great buy and provides good enough cushion. Unfortunately this was the wrong product for our uses, the type of flooring we used requires an underlayment without moisture barrier if you have a crawl space. Luckily i'd only done a 10x10 room before realizing that mistake and returning the extra rolls was very easy. Some of the underlayment that we'd already cut and couldn't return was used to put under a metal dog crate to keep it from scratching the floor, also the dog is a sloppy drinker so it keeps water spills from ruining the wood laminate. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Using Roberts Premium Underlayment will provide the necessary base protection so our new Traffic Master Laminate Floors will last for years. Roberts makes an outstanding product line of underlayments for every laminate flooring project. The on-line web-site provided great descriptions of exactly each kind of underlayment and what area's of protection that it provided. All you needed to do was know how must square footage that you needed to cover your laminate floor project and you are in business. December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GREAT VALUE!!! I just installed this underlayment in my front bedroom and had no problems. This is a very good product and a great value. It went down with no problems. The seams sealed perfectly to form a nice seal over the entire floor. I would highly recommend this product and plan to use it again in the near future. I see absolutely no reason to spend a huge amount of money for an underlayment and this product proves my point. June 25, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Underlayment at the right price and quality I used this underlayment in conjunction with black 6 mil moisture barrier, for laminate flooring. Roberts under-layment does provide 2 mil moisture barrier which should be adequate for most non concrete sub floor app- lications. My kids enjoyed laying the underlayment. The finished floor feels and sounds nice. I would suggest buying some regular duct tape as well. It is rather easy while installing your laminate to inadvertently scratch and puncture your underlayment. June 15, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product! For the price point, this was a fantastic buy and a great product. I would buy it again. Went in easily and loved the taping for the seams. It was nice and cushy. Now that the floor is in, it's a joy to walk on and very warm even in winter. December 18, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install The underlayment was easy to install and does a great job insulating sound with my laminate floor on top of concrete August 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This was so easy to put down before the laminate flooring.Great value!!! The underlayment was so easy to put down and was a great value. April 23, 2013
