Customer Questions & Answers

Can I use this for a toy box or is it too hard to open and does the lid fall down.

Asked by: Anonymous
Easy to open, but the lid only stays open if fully opened. If you don't open it all the way, the lid will fall closed.

is there doors on it or does the top open and does it lock?

Asked by: Anonymous
No door. Top opens. There is a hole in the lid and box where you could put a lock. Realistically, if you had a lock on it, I could get in a few seconds if I wanted to. Nothing is reinforced and should be easy enough to break the plastic. I keep a aluminum carabiner in the holes. Keeps the lid closed.

What is the inside height? I want to store a propane tank which is 18 inches tall.

Asked by: prg31
Inside height is about 20.5 inches. Please don't store a propane tank in this. It is dangerous and totally illegal.

Our only complaint was that the bottom of the back 2 sides didn't fit tight together, and you could see light shining through. My husband didn't want to bother with taking it back, so he made a quick fix of it and screwed 4" leather straps across all 4 bottom corners. That did the trick and sealed it tight. We had a lot of rain and it has always stayed dry. The box has plenty of room for our gardening supplies and toys for the grandkids.

I weigh 250 lbs and sit on it very comfortably. It looks good and does what it is intended to do. Can't say anything bad about this deck box. It has been snowed on and rained on and the contents stored in it stayed dry.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Quality not what it used to be. Quality not as good as one we purchased about 15 years ago. Same size also a Rubber Maid. The quality has gone down. And the purchaser has to put it together. Previous one was already set up and of superior quality. Would not buy again.

Had to shave off a lot of flashing from the molds not being tight. Otherwise OK- Use it for storing patio seat cushions when rain or snow projected- kept them all dry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock Solid I am really surprised that there are so many reviews that say it falls apart. I'm pretty sure those were put together without reading the instructions! I have had it for a few years now and it has held up perfectly. I store a BBQ and some other random stuff in there all year round. The Rubbermaid feels much more solid than other brands that have only a single wall. It has stood up to the summer sun and the winter snow. My only complaint is that the strap that keeps the lid from opening too far are a bit too short. The lid opens to about a 90 degree angle, any slight movement will cause the lid to tip back to the closed position (usually on my head). I just removed the strap and it's all good.
