Answer:
Easy to open, but the lid only stays open if fully opened. If you don't open it all the way, the lid will fall closed.

Rubbermaid deck boxes are not designed to be used as a toy box. There is not lid support to keep the lid from coming closed.

Answer:
No door. Top opens. There is a hole in the lid and box where you could put a lock.
Realistically, if you had a lock on it, I could get in a few seconds if I wanted to. Nothing is reinforced and should be easy enough to break the plastic.
I keep a aluminum carabiner in the holes. Keeps the lid closed.

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 70 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by perfect fit fits perfect for my pool to store stuff. price is right August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fit the bill Just what we wanted. Large enough to hold 6 cushions. Plus dishes and garden supplies Easy to put together if you follow instructions July 26, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Quality not up to Rubbermaid usual level One of the alignment pins was broken on one of the end wall pieces, resulting in excessive gap between end wall and back wall of box. Used a screw to pull the gap back together. More flash remained on mold lines than on a previously purchased box of same part number. The first box fit together better. July 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Deck Box - Thank You I recently purchased a Deck Storage Box from another store. I RETURNED IT! When I purchased the item, there was no display model; so I could not determine the sturdiness or quality of the deck box . Big mistake. The deck box was made from light-weight material and was not at all sturdy. I am thrilled to report that the Rubbermaid Medium Deck Box with Seat is perfect. It is solid, well-constructed, easy-to-assemble, water-tight, and the perfect size for all of my deck cushions, plant-care supplies, and miscellaneous items. It makes a great extra seat when the patio is crowded. May 5, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy assembly This is one of the very few things I've ever ordered that can indeed be assembled by a 5 year old. A hammer and screw driver is all that is needed and 10 minutes of your time. The box comes in 6 easay to snap together pieces, is strong clean and tight. June 11, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product! This deck box is everything they said it would be online. AND, it is very smart looking! December 17, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible Product I will start off by saying I am a huge Rubbermaid fan. I am own the Bridgeport deck box and it does not disappoint. This deck box, however, is another story. Upon opening the box, there is absolutely no padding. Then you get the instructions and it tells you you need a hammer and a screwdriver to punch out the tabs where all of the walls will slide into. Punching out the tabs cannot be done by any hammer. I took an impact driver and that barely did the job (this is very very tough plastic, mind you. Reminds you of the interior of an airplane). The instructions barely have two sentences, with only diagrams. Rubbermaid should go back to the drawing board on this. June 4, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does what I need Got this to keep charcoal and grilling accessories accessible and dry. Had it for a couple of weeks and so far so good. A 20 pound bag of charcoal fits upright without a problem. In the back where the hinge is there is a gap that critters can get in. They have to be pretty small to get in, but they can. We have a major tree frog population here and they are starting to find their way in. Not a design flaw and nothing you can do about it, but be aware that it isn't totally sealed. We have had a couple of rain storms since we put it outside and it has remained dry inside. June 23, 2015
